Job Description

Full-time Wellness Department Vet Tech/Assistant Pawmetto Lifeline's Wellness Program offers a wide range of affordable, high-quality veterinary services for animals in the Midlands community. Pet owners and rescues can schedule appointments for wellness exams, vaccinations, bloodwork, heartworm treatments, dentals, and more with a SC licensed Veterinarian at Pawmetto Lifeline. Experience, Education, and/or Training Required
  • 2 years' experience in a veterinary clinic Preferred
  • License as veterinary technician Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the veterinarian during examination of animals, providing restraint as needed in order to work safely and effectively.
  • Prepare and administer medications and vaccines as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Monitoring pets closely for changes.
  • Maintain clean examination rooms and treatment areas.
Advanced duties may include:
  • Perform routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian.
  • Administer anesthesia to animals, under the direction of the veterinarian, and monitor animals' responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.
  • Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques.
  • Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery.
  • Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces, such as urinalyses and blood counts, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.
  • Administer emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other life saving procedures.
  • Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed.
  • Fill prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers.
  • Prepare animals for surgery, performing such tasks as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters. Skills and Abilities
  • Effectively communicate in the English language both in writing and orally.
  • Accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Solve problems involving several variables.
  • Regularly stand for extended periods, and be able to reach and feel with hands and arms.
  • Frequently walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain confidence around pets.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office Programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Prefer knowledge of Advantage Vet Software Willing to cross train for the reception area (as needed): Process daily paperwork related to the Wellness clinic Provide exceptional customer service to all clients Work with numerous walk-in clients each day Scanning of materials for record keeping Retrieve's information as requested from medical records, email, and other related document Performs other related duties as assigned.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday from 7:45am-5:15pm

Reporting to the lead veterinarian, your core responsibilities will include IV insertion, medication administration, and animal catheterization, utilizing your veterinary experience and knowledge of animal physiology. Your premium skills in veterinary critical care and laboratory experience will enhance patient outcomes. Additionally, proficiency in Microsoft Office will aid in maintaining accurate records and communication.
