State Ave Veterinary Hospital (SAVH) & Vetted Pet (Riverbend Pet Center Program)Position Type:
Full-Time / Part-Time Position Summary The Kennel Assistant is responsible for the daily care, safety, and well-being of boarding, hospitalized, and day play animals. This role supports both SAVH and Vetted Pet and requires flexibility to rotate between facilities while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, animal handling, and safety. Key ResponsibilitiesAnimal Care & Handling Feed, water, and medicate animals according to instructions and schedules Walk dogs and monitor elimination habits (dogs must be walked prior to yard/day play, especially mornings) Monitor animal behavior and report any concerns immediately to leads or veterinary staff Ensure safe handling at all times (minimum two handlers for dogs when required; no loose animals) Cleaning & Sanitation Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, runs, and common areas throughout the day Follow OSHA/SDS-compliant cleaning and safety protocols Maintain overall facility cleanliness, including laundry and waste disposal Day Play & Boarding Support Assist with safe group play supervision under lead direction Ensure proper separation and safety of animals at all times Assist with boarding check-in/check-out processes as needed Facility Support Rotate between SAVH and Vetted Pet as assigned Assist veterinary team with basic patient handling and restraint when needed Maintain accurate logs for feeding, medications, and observations Qualifications Experience with animals preferred (kennel, boarding, veterinary, or similar environment) Ability to handle animals of various sizes, temperaments, and medical conditions Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely Physical ability to lift, stand, bend, and work in a fast-paced environment Work Environment & Expectations Must demonstrate a sense of urgency to prevent delays in care Strict adherence to safety protocols and chain of command Punctuality and dependability are critical Failure to follow safety and care protocols may result in disciplinary actionPay:
