Do you enjoy road trips and seeing different parts of Wisconsin? Are you looking for a veterinary role where your work directly helps shelters save lives? Underdog Pet Rescue & Veterinary Services is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our Mobile Veterinary Clinic team. This unique position combines high-quality veterinary medicine, travel, and animal welfare to support shelters throughout Wisconsin that have limited access to veterinary services. Our mobile clinic focuses primarily on high-volume spay/neuter surgery , helping shelters in veterinary deserts reduce transportation burdens and increase adoptions by ensuring animals receive timely surgical care. While this position is primarily mobile, there may be opportunities to work at our new veterinary clinic on Stoughton Road in Madison. Typical travel schedule:
Two to Three consecutive days weekly at shelters located farther from Madison, with overnight stays provided by Underdog One additional mobile clinic day per week serving shelters within approximately 1-2 hours of Madison (travel back and forth within one day) Shared driving responsibilities for the mobile veterinary vehicle What You'll Do Assist veterinarians during spay/neuter surgeries and other treatments Prepare and monitor surgical patients Administer medications and treatments as directed Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats Maintain accurate medical records using DaySmart software Assist with laboratory sample collection and diagnostic testing Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the mobile clinic and surgical areas Communicate professionally with shelter staff, pet owners, and team members Support scheduling and administrative tasks as needed Help maintain inventory, equipment, and supplies for mobile operations Qualifications Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) required High-volume spay/neuter experience strongly preferred Comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical environment Experience handling and restraining dogs and cats safely and confidently Ability to administer medications and perform basic medical procedures, including catheter placement Familiarity with veterinary terminology and medical record keeping Strong communication and customer service skills Reliable, adaptable, and able to work independently and as part of a team Valid driver's license with a good driving record Comfortable driving the mobile clinic vehicle as part of a shared team responsibility Willingness to travel and stay overnight as needed Benefits Employees working 30+ hours per week are eligible for: GHC Health Insurance Delta Dental Premier Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance Disability Insurance Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Employee Discount Paid Time Off (PTO) About Underdog Underdog Pet Rescue & Veterinary Services is committed to improving the lives of animals throughout Wisconsin through rescue, adoption, affordable veterinary care, and innovative programs that expand access to veterinary services.
