Job Description

Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Technician Do you want a chance to work with animals every day? Desert View Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Technician for a busy, mixed animal Veterinary practice. We are looking for a hard-working team player with an interest in leadership that enjoys working with animals. Experience is preferred but we will train the right person. Veterinary Technician certification not required. Good communication skills and a friendly attitude are essential, as well as attention to detail. Must have good customer skills. It is very important for us to find the right person that fits in with our practice, our team and most importantly, our patients. Experience with large animals not required. Responsibilities include:
Kennel duty in the boarding facility required on a rotating basis. Kennel duty includes taking dogs outside, cleaning kennels and cages, feeding animals, giving medications. General cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning stalls, scrubbing and disinfecting facility Patient admittance and release into the boarding facility Assisting the Veterinarian with restraint of all species including dogs, cats, horses, exotic animals and large animals. Treating sick patients both on an outpatient and inpatient basis under the direction of the Veterinarian Dietary and behavior consultations Bandage placement and care Drawing blood and running blood panels on lab machines Taking radiographs Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring anesthesia Taking care of and cleaning up after patients Fielding phone calls from clients with questions about their animal and communicating with the veterinarian to determine best answer Occasional weekend, after hours and on call duties required Schedules are 4, 10 hour shifts per week. Wages are hourly, starting at $12.50-$15.00, depending on experience. Health insurance, dental/vision insurance and AFLAC offered. Paid vacation and sick time. Monthly production bonuses available. Employee Discount and payment plan offered. We are a privately owned, 2-doctor practice with a caseload that is predominantly small animals but do see equine, exotic and large animal patients. We strive to provide progressive, quality medical and surgical care while tailoring to each client's needs and financial concerns. We provide excellent customer service with a focus on client communication and the human animal bond. Services include general medicine and surgery for small animal, large animal and exotic patients, stem cell therapy, advanced dentistry, emergency and urgent care, wellness and preventative health, behavior consults and end-of-life care. We also perform spay/neuter work for the local animal shelter and participate in the Spay-Neuter Wyoming Program. We are a drug-free workplace.
