$24•$32 per hour Job Details•As a Consulting Veterinary Technician, you will be part of the Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC) team, a unit of the Office of Research, dedicated to the proper care of animals used for research. The veterinary health unit of LARC is responsible for the daily health care of laboratory animals and for providing research services to laboratories.
Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 1. Assisting veterinarians and AHT III staff with health care procedures and research services in the lab animal setting. 2. Conducting simple health assessments and reporting to veterinarian and/or senior AHT. 3. Assisting with veterinary technical procedures under direct supervision, such as blood collection and animal anesthesia. 4. Assisting with the preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of surgical areas, necropsy room, treatment areas, and surgical and other technical supplies. 5. Assisting with animal husbandry duties as assigned. 6. Assisting with animal necropsy and tissue collection. 7. Assisting with record keeping and data analysis for LARC projects. 8. Performing other technical and administrative duties of similar complexity as assigned.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must have: 1. 5+ years of experience in clinical animal work as a veterinary assistant or licensed veterinary technician. This includes, but is not limited to, health assessment, basic handling of various species, anesthesia monitoring and surgery assistance, intubation, injections, venipuncture, and placement of IV catheters. 2. The ability to maintain a great degree of confidentiality. 3. Confidence and competence in safely working with a variety of animal species. 4. Understanding of the requirement to adhere to approved Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee protocols. 5. The desire to learn-by-doing, with an expectation to progress in skills and knowledge in your time with LARC.
