Job Description

Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital is a AAHA accredited general practice and referral veterinary hospital for companion animals. Sky Canyon Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our compassionate, collaborative, and fast-paced veterinary team. Position Overview The Registered Veterinary Technician plays a critical role in patient care, anesthesia, diagnostics, client education, and hospital operations. RVTs work closely with veterinarians, assistants, and client service staff to ensure medical excellence, efficiency, and a positive client experience. This position requires strong technical skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain calm and compassionate in a fast-paced medical environment. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Nursing Assist veterinarians with inpatient and outpatient care Obtain and record patient histories, weights, vitals, and medical notes Administer medications, vaccines, treatments, and IV fluids as directed Provide continuous nursing care and monitor hospitalized patients Safely handle and restrain animals with attention to patient comfort Anesthesia & Surgery Prepare patients for anesthetized procedures Perform induction, intubation, monitoring, and recovery Accurately monitor and record anesthetic vitals Assist in surgical and dental procedures Clean and maintain surgical suites and equipment Laboratory & Diagnostics Collect blood, urine, fecal, and other diagnostic samples Perform in-house laboratory testing Prepare samples for reference laboratories Assist with radiographs, ultrasound, and advanced imaging as trained Dentistry Perform dental cleanings, polishing, and full-mouth radiographs Assist with dental extractions Document dental findings and educate clients Client Communication & Education Communicate treatment plans and discharge instructions Educate clients on medications, nutrition, and post-care needs Provide compassionate support during emotional or end-of-life situations Hospital Support Maintain accurate and legally defensible medical records Assist with inventory and controlled substance logging Follow hospital safety, OSHA, and DEA protocols Support team workflow and cross-train as needed Qualifications Required Current Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license in good standing in the State of Colorado Prior clinical veterinary experience Experience with anesthesia monitoring and dentistry Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely handle animals Preferred Graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program Skills & Attributes Compassionate, detail-oriented, and team-focused Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Calm and professional under pressure Willingness to learn and grow clinically Strong problem-solving and communication skills Work Environment This role involves exposure to animals (including aggressive or contagious patients), anesthetic gases, biohazards, medical waste, and emotionally sensitive situations.
