//youtu.be/YHfVfHufi-M www.facebook.com/vetspecialistsloveland Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician, RVT We're looking for a skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Internal Medicine team. This role is central to delivering thoughtful, high-quality care to patients while supporting their owners through clear, confident communication. Although your primary focus will be internal medicine, you'll also work alongside teams across the hospital, including surgery, emergency and critical care, oncology, cardiology, and radiology. This variety keeps the work engaging and gives you the chance to build a well-rounded skill set. In this role, you'll be hands-on in every part of patient care. That includes monitoring hospitalized patients, administering and assisting with treatments, supporting procedures, educating clients, coordinating scheduling, and responding to technician calls. You'll be an important part of keeping patients comfortable, informed, and on track throughout their care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Procedure Knowledge Endoscopy - Set up, assist with, and clean and maintain equipment for GI endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy. Maintain sterile technique. Set up and assist with common internal medicine procedures: transtracheal wash, biopsies, bone marrow cytology/biopsy.
Diagnostic Testing Skills Laboratory samples:
Run automated CBCs, blood chemistries, I-stats, refractometer and prepare and read blood films.
Urine samples:
UA with sediment, Cultures, UPC, etc.
Fecal samples:
cytology evaluation BG curves, ACTH stims, Bile Acids, etc. Proficient at obtaining blood pressures, EKG readings, and diagnostic radiography Prepare appropriate lab forms and submit with appropriate samples. Technical Skills Assist doctors and fellow technicians with appropriate restraint of animals. Proficient at venipuncture, cystocentesis, place male urinary catheters, central lines. Administer and instruct client in SC fluid, Etude or PEG tube feedings, and insulin administration. Medical and Treatment Knowledge Prepare and administer medications and prescriptions in accordance with state regulations and doctor's orders (including IV, IM, SC, PO, Rectal, Nebulization, etc.)
Anesthesia:
Administer and monitor anesthesia in accordance with state regulations and doctors' orders. Trouble shoot and identify problems with critical patients under anesthesia.
Common internal medicine diseases:
diabetes, Cushing's, IMHA, etc. CPR knowledge and experience Communication Skills Have a positive attitude and willing to learn new procedures. Keep doctors apprised of patient's condition and any potential problems. Communicate with clients regarding the medical information of their pet, provide accurate information to them regarding procedures, follow up/home care, hospital policies; diagnostics and basic disease processes. Help schedule appointments and medical procedures Computer and Medical Records Maintain patient records by recording all conversations with client in patient file. Review medical records and notes to discern the nature of the patients visit. Be able to complete a patient's history and enter into medical record. Be able to assist owners with understanding discharge instructions Enter all charges accrued by inpatients and outpatients.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Minimum 1-2 years recent experience in a veterinary speciality practice
Preferred:
Degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program 1-2 years of previous experience with veterinary internal medicine Familiarity with Fear Free handling techniques. Experience with Instinct treatment and EMR software.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, including small animal nursing care, patient monitoring, treatments, procedures, and medical terminology Ability to support veterinarians during procedures and treatments using proper protocols Ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently Ability to remain calm, focused, and productive in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, including client interaction Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support others and contribute to overall hospital goals Initiative and forward thinking; steps in where needed without being asked Compassionate approach with tact, empathy, patience, and professionalism Knowledge of equipment use, care, storage, and sterilization techniques Familiarity with hospital systems, including computers, phones, scheduling, and general office practices Understanding of payment processing and basic administrative tasks Awareness of relevant regulations and compliance standards (e.g., OSHA, DEA)
