This is an exciting opportunity for a strong veterinary professional who is passionate about animal welfare, shelter medicine, surgery support, and leadership. As a Lead Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in overseeing daily treatment operations, supporting veterinarians during procedures, mentoring veterinary staff, and ensuring exceptional patient care for both owned pets and rescue animals.
Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise veterinary technicians and assistants during daily operations Assist veterinarians with exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures Monitor anesthesia and patient recovery during surgeries Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, radiographs, laboratory testing, and medication administration Maintain accurate medical records and treatment plans Ensure proper handling, restraint, and compassionate care of animals Oversee inventory, medical supplies, and pharmacy organization Train and mentor new veterinary staff members Maintain cleanliness and compliance throughout treatment and surgical areas Assist with emergency and critical care cases Support shelter medicine operations and care for rescue animals with complex medical needs Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, adopters, and team members
Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years veterinary technician experience required Leadership or supervisory experience required Strong anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting skills Experience with Avimark or veterinary software preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Excellent communication and organizational skills Compassion for rescue animals and commitment to no-kill philosophy Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with animal restraint
