  • Full-time HCW Biologics is an innovative immunotherapy company developing novel therapeutics designed to disrupt the link between chronic, low-grade inflammation and related disorders.
This field, known as inflammaging, targets the unresolved inflammatory responses and chronic, low-grade inflammation associated with advancing age and believed to be a significant contribuiting factor to cancer and several chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disease, and autoimmune disease. HCW Biologics is looking for an Animal Technician. This individual will provide routine husbandry care for a variety of animal species following standardized laboratory procedures. The candidate needs to have a lot of compassion for lab animals and their well-being and treat them humanely and with respect.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide animal husbandry activities including handling, care, and breeding on a daily basis in accordance with standard operating procedures. Organize and maintain breeding programmers of genetically altered murine strains. Breed multiple strains of mice and provide them for research. Observe animal health condition and behavior of animals, reporting injuries or abnormalities to the veterinary team. May administer treatments as directed. May assist investigators with research procedures. General knowledge to perform PCR for genotyping. Identify signs of illness and abnormalities (change in behavior or appearance, rough hair coat, poor appetite), and report to appropriate staff. Perform routine and specialized duties associated with animal care, including feeding, medicating, cleaning, restraint and transportation of laboratory mice. Maintain cage cards, animal histories, and other records as required. Understand and follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED. At least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may include directly related college-level student practicum. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-by-year basis. Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. Knowledge of animal husbandry requirements, methods, and techniques. Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures.
