Job Description

About Us Bay Road Animal Hospital is an AAHA-accredited small animal practice with two locations in Sarasota, Florida. Our team is committed to providing exceptional medical care while creating a supportive, collaborative environment for our staff.
Our mission is simple:
Healthy pets, happy clients. We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our team. This position works closely with our veterinarians to deliver high-quality patient care while helping maintain efficient hospital operations. Veterinary Technician Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Assist veterinarians during examinations and treatments Safely restrain pets for exams and procedures Prepare medications for outpatient, hospitalized, and surgical patients Monitor patients during anesthesia, surgery, and recovery Administer fluids and supportive treatments Assist in surgical preparation and procedures Diagnostic Testing Perform in-house laboratory procedures including: Fecal flotation Heartworm testing Urinalysis Skin scrapings Fungal cultures Parvo and FeLV testing Collect blood samples and prepare samples for external laboratories Radiology Take and process radiographs Properly store and maintain imaging records for future reference Treatment & Procedures Perform treatments such as: Ear flushes and ear plucks Bandaging and wound care Dental prophylaxis Enemas and deworming Monitor vital signs and record patient observations Surgery & Sterilization Prepare patients and equipment for surgery Maintain sterile surgical packs through proper cleaning, packing, and autoclaving Keep surgical areas stocked and organized Client Communication Admit and discharge patients according to veterinarian instructions Educate clients on medication use and home care instructions Answer general pet care questions and reinforce veterinarian recommendations Hospital Operations Maintain exam rooms and treatment areas stocked and ready for use Assist with inventory management and supply ordering Help support other team members including reception and kennel staff when needed Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of veterinary instruments, materials, and procedures Understanding of sterilization techniques and surgical preparation Ability to perform laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced veterinary environment Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods Ability to lift and carry animals 50 lbs or more and assist with patients up to 150 lbs Professional Growth At Bay Road Animal Hospital, we believe in investing in our team.
