Part Time:
10-15 hours/week (hiring multiple people) Available shifts: Thu and Sun 7-11am, Wed, Fri, Sat and Sun 3-6pm
Job Summary:
The Animal Care Technician (DOG CARE) is an essential member of the Tails Humane Society team, responsible for assisting in the care and treatment of animals while maintaining a clean and sanitary shelter environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring the health and well-being of all animals in the shelter and contributes to the shelter's smooth daily operations. The Animal Care Technician will provide compassionate care, assist with animal medical treatments, and perform a variety of shelter maintenance tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the humane care and treatment of all animals, including feeding in accordance with dietary requirements and monitoring for signs of illness. Clean and sanitize cages, kennels, and animal bedding to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and maintain hygiene standards. Assist in the medical treatment of animals as prescribed by the Medical Staff and report any concerns to management. Maintain accurate and timely records of animal care, including illness monitoring and treatment. Develop and maintain a general knowledge of animal behavior, temperaments, and personality traits. Stock and maintain necessary supplies in respective areas, including food, cleaning materials, and medical items. Manage laundry requirements for animal articles and bedding, ensuring they are washed and disinfected as needed. Ensure the overall cleanliness and appearance of the shelter, including grounds, front office, bathrooms, and windows. Foster clear communication with Tails staff and volunteers to ensure effective teamwork and operational success. Stay informed about animal welfare issues, techniques, procedures, and equipment to continuously improve care standards.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, scrubbing, mopping, walking, reaching, squatting, and lifting up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Skills and Experience Knowledge of animal handling and behavior. Previous experience working in a kennel or shelter environment. Work Environment Work performed in a high noise level area. Exposure to industrial cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal feces, zoonotic (human to animal) diseases, bites and scratches. Safety procedures must be always adhered to.
