Veterinarian Position Summary Mackenzie's Veterinary Services is seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our small animal clinic team. Mackenzie's Veterinary Services is a new small animal clinic located in Olney, IL. The clinic provides preventive, medical, and surgical care for dogs and cats in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, confident in clinical skills, and committed to excellent patient and client care. Illinois Credentialing Requirement In accordance with the
Illinois Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Practice Act:
Candidates holding the title Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) must be currently certified and in good standing through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). CVTs must have graduated from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program and passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). CVTs are authorized under Illinois law to perform delegated veterinary tasks under the direct or indirect supervision of a licensed veterinarian, consistent with state regulations. Applicants without Illinois CVT certification may apply; however, duties will be assigned in accordance with Illinois scope-of-practice laws. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Obtain accurate patient histories and record vital signs Assist veterinarian with examinations and treatment plans Perform venipuncture and place IV catheters Administer medications (oral, injectable, SQ, IM) as delegated Conduct in-house laboratory testing (CBC, urinalysis, fecal exams, cytology) Take and process digital radiographs Surgical & Anesthesia Support (CVT preferred for anesthesia monitoring duties) Prepare patients for surgery (clip, scrub, induction assistance) Intubate patients (where permitted by veterinarian delegation) Monitor anesthesia (heart rate, respiratory rate, SpO₂, ETCO₂, blood pressure, temperature) Perform dental prophylaxis Oversee post-operative recovery Client Communication & Education Educate clients on medications, post-operative care, and preventive health Review vaccine protocols and parasite prevention Provide discharge instructions with clarity and empathy Explaining treatment plans, home care instructions, nutrition, and preventative care to pet owners. Create daily facebook posts with pertinent client education on diseases, procedures, promos, staff, opening/closings, etc. Organize annual workshop for clients (students, pet owners, veterinary staff)
Medical Records :
Maintaining accurate, detailed patient files and legal logs (e.g., controlled substance logs).
Pharmacy:
Filling prescriptions as ordered by the veterinarian and educating clients on proper administration
Administrative & Community Involvement:
: Lead discussion of staff meetings quarterly with topics of your choice.
Examples include:
new protocols in veterinary medicine, highlights of CE, reviewing routine procedures (CPR, fecal ID, cytology) Attending and participating in elementary, middle, or high school discussions or labs in forms of lunch discussion, with local organizations (FFA, ILFB, 4H), or attending a meeting. Creating a "2-day summer camp" for young people over a weekend Be an MVS representative at community events, including Richland County Fair Auction and FFA Customer Appreciation Lunch during FFA Week. Manage photo booth section in clinic with veterinary assistant Attend the open house and "soft launch" for MVS Create new involvement ideas semi-annually Facility & Compliance Maintain OSHA compliance and proper medical waste disposal Follow controlled substance handling protocols Maintain accurate and complete medical records Ensure equipment maintenance and sterilization procedures are followed
Qualifications Required:
Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program or equivalent clinical experience (role dependent on credentials) Eligible for Illinois CVT certification or currently certified through IDFPR Strong patient handling and restraint skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Ability to lift 40+ pounds and work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
