Yes (local sites) We are seeking an Animal Support Technician I to join our Insourcing Solutions (IS) team in Bethesda, MD. This role supports multiple laboratory animal facilities on the NIH campus, with occasional support in Poolesville, Gaithersburg, Baltimore, or Washington, DC. The Animal Support Technician is responsible for daily animal care, husbandry, health monitoring, and facility sanitation across a variety of species in a research environment. Key Responsibilities Perform daily animal care and husbandry, including: Feeding and watering animals Cage changing, cage cleaning, and cage wash duties Daily equipment and environmental checks Monitor animal health, production, and housing conditions Provide species-appropriate environmental enrichment Maintain accurate records of animal health, breeding, and housing Identify and document health concerns and administer treatments as prescribed Assist with animal handling, restraint, and manipulation under supervision Receive, inspect, and properly house incoming animals Follow all facility procedures and SOPs, including: PPE use Personnel entry requirements Sanitation and decontamination protocols Operate equipment and use supplies in compliance with safety guidelines Perform general housekeeping and maintain clean, organized cage wash facilities Sanitize, maintain, and assist with repair of animal caging and support equipment Serve as a floater, providing coverage across IS-supported client sites as needed Required Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following education/experience combinations: Associate's Degree (A.A./A.S.) in Biology, Animal Science, or related field plus 6 months of animal handling experience, OR Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.) in Biology, Animal Science, or related field (no experience required) Preferred QualificationsAALAS ALAT
certification (Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician) Experience working in a laboratory animal or research facility Familiarity with NIH or regulated research environments Additional Requirements Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to work across multiple facilities Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, standing, bending, and repetitive motions Commitment to animal welfare, safety, and regulatory compliancePay:
