In this role, you'll be deeply involved in the recovery phase, supporting pets as they transition from higher-acuity care toward stability and discharge. You'll care for patients recovering from procedures, surgeries, and anesthesia, as well as those requiring ongoing treatment for non-critical conditions. It's a unique space that blends the familiarity of general practice with the depth and resources of a specialty hospital—making it an ideal next step for technicians looking to grow. You won't just be executing treatments—you'll be thinking, anticipating, and contributing to the bigger picture of each case. Key Responsibilities:
Patient Monitoring:
Monitor patient vitals and comfort, with support and guidance from the medical team.
Medication Administration:
Accurately dose and administer intravenous and oral drugs, fluids, and pain management.
Emergency Response:
Assist with emergency interventions (e.g., CPR, oxygen therapy) as needed, with team support.
Collaboration:
Work closely with veterinarians to follow treatment plans and adjust care as needed.
Diagnostic Testing:
Perform routine diagnostic tests such as blood work and blood pressure readings.
Qualifications:
Experience in
Patient Care :
Experience in a veterinary clinical setting required. Ideal for technicians looking to transition from general practice into a specialty/emergency environment; ICU or emergency experience is a plus.
Technical Skills :
Familiarity with or willingness to learn advanced medical equipment (e.g., ECGs, infusion pumps). Training provided.
Medication Administration :
Ability to accurately dose and administer intravenous and oral drugs.
Strong Communication Skills :
Effective communication with veterinarians, team members, and pet owners. Attention to
Detail :
Precision in monitoring patients, keeping records, and following treatment protocols.
Emotional Resilience :
Ability to remain calm and compassionate in a fast-paced, team-supported environment.
Team Collaboration :
Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
Patient Restraint and Handling:
Ability to safely restrain and handle cats and dogs.
Client Communication and Education:
Ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with clients while educating them on medical protocols and patient updates.
