Veterinary Technician (Does not require Vet license) Book here for more information: https://talentassistant.actalentservices.com/assistant/bookings/BfUTMTxl Under general supervision, the Veterinary Technician I is responsible for observing, reporting, and monitoring the health and comfort of animals, while ensuring their care in a humane, safe, and sanitary manner. Responsibilities Provide care for laboratory animals using appropriate equipment and established procedures. Observe animals for clinical signs of diseases and behavioral changes and report observations to the Animal Care Manager. Perform routine laboratory tests and provide animal restraint for examination and anesthesia induction. Communicate any animal health issues with the Animal Care Manager or DVM. Assist in the preparation of animals for invasive and/or interventional procedures. Maintain all necessary records to ensure compliance with regulations, including animal treatments and drug logs. Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments and equipment. Clean and maintain assigned areas of the lab, assisting Animal Care Technicians as needed. Coordinate inventory with other staff members. Induce and maintain anesthesia, monitor physiologic status, and take appropriate action for animals on studies. Attend in-house training programs to advance knowledge of laboratory animal science and workplace safety. Provide support to investigators when needed and ensure compliance with regulations. Prepare and submit lab work to outside diagnostic laboratories. Administer oral medications and SQ, IM, and IV injections. Place intravenous catheters and set-up and maintain IV fluid lines and pumps. Execute nasal cannulation and oxygen supplementation set-up. Set up and maintain equipment, including blood pressure monitors, IV fluid pumps, suction units, and surgical instruments. Understand aseptic principles and accurately calculate medication dosages. Administer peri-operative pain medications to surgical animals per established protocols. Maintain surgery and treatment inventory. Essential Skills Animal handling and veterinary science. Proficiency in anesthesia and surgical care. Experience in animal husbandry and animal research. Ability to draw blood and perform animal surgery. Additional Skills & Qualifications AS degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field required; BS/BA degree in life sciences preferred. AALAS certification at the ALAT or LAT level preferred NOT required 1-2 years of animal experience preferred. Ability to perform heavy repetitive lifting and moving of animals and equipment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to analyze complex information and solve problems related to animal care. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Orangeburg, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $49000.00 - $53000.00/yr.
