Job Description

Support veterinarians and technical staff in delivering high-quality animal care in a research/clinical environment. This role combines hands-on veterinary technical skills, animal husbandry, and detailed recordkeeping to ensure animal health, welfare, and compliance. Key Responsibilities Assist veterinarians with triage, case documentation, and treatment of animal health issues Administer medications and treatments (IV, IM, SQ, oral, topical) Monitor and provide care for critical animals (e.g., IV placement, fluid monitoring) Perform routine health checks and report abnormalities Conduct daily walkthroughs of animal rooms and monitor health schedules Technical Skills & Procedures Perform restraint, bandaging, and wrapping techniques Trim nails, hooves, and teeth as needed Assist with surgery and peri-operative care (animal prep, surgical packs, recovery support) Support procedures such as tissue sampling, radiography, and fluid administration Animal Husbandry & Welfare Provide daily husbandry care and maintain clean environments Support animal acclimation, behavior management, and enrichment Participate in colony management (health monitoring, biosurveillance, routine care) Assist with animal intake/receipt and rechecks for all species Operations & Compliance Maintain accurate medical records and documentation Stock and organize veterinary rooms, supplies, and medications Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines Participate in weekend rotation as needed Perform general lab support duties and housekeeping as required Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED required Veterinary Technology degree (AVMA-accredited or equivalent) Experience 0-2 years of animal care experience (clinical or pre-clinical setting) Experience in a CRO or multi-species environment preferred Certifications Licensed Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, or CVT) required or ability to obtain Ability to secure Ohio licensure required AALAS (ALAT) certification preferred Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of veterinary techniques and animal handling Excellent observation, organization, and recordkeeping skills Effective written and verbal communication Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Flexible and adaptable to changing daily priorities Basic computer and documentation skills Why Join Us Hands-on experience across multiple species Opportunities for career development and certification growth Collaborative and mission-driven team environment
