The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) is responsible for instructing students, selecting and organizing curriculum, classroom management, tracking the progress of students in the course they are instructing, which also includes keeping accurate records/files on each student in the class(es) he or she teaches. The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) will assist with creating and implementing programmatic accreditation policies and procedures, including the Essential and Recommended Skills List.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES A.
Training Students 1. Develop lesson plans that include lecture and/or lab delivery methods, assignments/activities, homework and evaluation tools for assigned classes as designated by the Valley College Academics team; 2. Plan and coordinate the class and clinical portion of the course(s); 3. Instruct and guide students in the classroom and/or lab learning environment, as designated by the American Veterinary Medical Association; Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA/CVTEA) recommended curriculum and Essential and Recommended Skills List; 4. Demonstrate procedures/processes and operate appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum; 5. Grade and evaluate students' work in a timely manner and provide constructive feedback; 6. Assist and tutor students with areas of the curriculum with which they are having difficulty; 7. Keep accurate and up to date progress reports on students' work; 8. Prepare periodic reports/updates on students, classroom rosters, and documentation demonstrating program changes; as required; 9. Provide telephone and/or email follow-up with students as requested within 24 hours of initial contact; 10. Maintain a cooperative and professional learning environment. 11. Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) instructor is responsible for the supervision of students while they are at their clinical (off-site) experience as per the rules and regulations set by the
AVMA/CVTEA
policies and procedures; 12. Provide instructional support and/or assume role as instructor in the veterinary clinical classrooms as requested by Director of Academic Affairs (DOAA), Campus Director, or (in the absence of the DOAA), the Program Head; 13. Participate, coordinate and assist with creating and implementing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies and protocols; 14. Coordinate and assist with animal acquisition and record keeping; 15. Participate and/or coordinate program-related activities on or off campus.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Requirements:
1) Must have at least four years of working experience as an RVT and have graduated from an AVMA accredited program. 2) These individuals must meet the continuing education requirements as set by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board (OVMLB). 3) All incumbents must have the ability to express ideas in a clear, concise and motivating manner and employ effective questioning techniques to encourage students to pursue their own answers. 4) They must have the ability and organizational skills necessary to maintain an accurate tracking system and be able to establish a disciplined learning environment. The years of work experience and/or college degree will be verified by Valley College.
