Veterinary Programs Instructor (RVT) - Part Time Valley College - 3.2 Cleveland, OH Job Details Part-time 8 hours ago Qualifications Classroom behavior management Full Job Description Veterinary Programs Instructor (RVT) Part-Time SUMMARY The Veterinary Programs Instructor (RVT/PT) is responsible for delivering instruction using the approved Valley College curriculum, including the Essential and Recommended Skills List. Core responsibilities include effective classroom management, monitoring and documenting student progress, and maintaining accurate and complete student records for all assigned courses. The RVT Instructor is expected to follow all programmatic accreditation policies and procedures. Success in this role requires the ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and in a motivating manner; use questioning strategies that promote critical thinking and encourage students to pursue their own answers; maintain an organized and disciplined learning environment; and uphold strict confidentiality in all matters involving student information and records. The role also requires strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate and reliable tracking systems that support student progress and program needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES A.
Training Students Plan and coordinate the class and clinical portion of the assigned course(s). Develop lesson plans that include lecture and/or lab delivery methods, assignments/activities, homework, and evaluation tools for assigned classes as designated by the Valley College Academics team. Instruct and guide students in the classroom and/or lab learning environment, as designated by the American Veterinary Medical Association?s Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA/CVTEA) recommended curriculum and Essential and Recommended Skills List. Demonstrate procedures/processes and operate appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum. Maintain a cooperative and professional learning environment. Grade and evaluate students' work in a timely manner and provide constructive feedback. Assist and tutor students with areas of the curriculum with which they are having difficulty. Keep accurate and up-to-date progress reports on students? work. Prepare periodic reports/updates on students, classroom rosters, and documentation demonstrating program changes, as required. Provide telephone and/or email follow-up with students as requested within 24 hours of initial contact following Valley College communication protocols. Responsible for the supervision of students while they are at their clinical (off-site) experience as per the rules and regulations set by theAVMA/CVTEA
policies and procedures, as applicable. Provide instructional support and/or assume the role of instructor in the veterinary clinical classrooms as requested. Assist with implementing and executing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies and protocols. Coordinate and assist with animal acquisition and record keeping. B. Course Development Conduct on-going evaluation of course material. Participate in the selection of books and material. Follow the school?s protocol for maintaining course curriculum materials that consist of current tests, assignments and course syllabi and other student and instructor resources, such as PowerPoint lectures or recorded live lectures used for tutoring sessions so that it is easily accessible for designated employees. C. Professional Development and Continuing Education Develop a professional development (self-development) and professional growth plan, including continuing education that meets Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board, Ohio Professional Development for Faculty, and ACCSC (accreditation) requirements. Provide support documentation that the professional development and continuing education plan has been executed. Attend scheduled faculty meetings and professional development events. If requested, serve as the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (SCNAVTA) student chapter advisor and/or assist with all planning and coordination activities. If requested, assist with the development of the ACCSC Program Advisory Committee (PAC). If requested, attend Valley College Veterinary Program PAC meetings. If requested, assist with the development of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) committee membership. If requested, attend IACUC meetings. D. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but collaborates with the academics? team to support student success. WORK ENVIRONMENT andPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates within a structured academic classroom, clinical, and lab environment. The role also involves regular engagement with team members and/or students. Standard office equipment is used routinely, including?but not limited to?computers, real-time communication systems, phones, and printers. The position may perform procedures or processes and operate or demonstrate the use of appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum. The employee must be able to: Remain in a stationery or mobile position for extended periods to perform job duties. Occasionally move, position, or adjust items such as files, office supplies, or equipment. Maintain sufficient visual acuity to read, review, and prepare documents. TRAVEL It may require occasional travel to different campus site, off-site work-related locations such as field trips or externship sites, professional development events, or campus events.POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time hourly position . This is an onsite position. Workdays and hours may vary based on the academic term and student needs. Standard business hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION, LICENSING, PRIORWORK EXPERIENCE & OTHER
Education:
Required Associate degree or higher from anAVMA-CVTEA
accredited Veterinary Technician/Technology program.Licensure:
Required:
Valid Registered, Licensed, and/or Certified Veterinary Technician.Requirement:
Must meet the continuing education requirements as set by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board.Prior Work Experience:
Four years of practical work experience as an RVT or direct animal care that does not include teaching experience is required. (and)Preferred:
One or more years of teaching experience. An acceptable background check is required for employment. Valley College will verify the academic, prior employment, background and licensure.SUPERVISORY CONTROL
