Job Description

Philadelphia Animal Specialty and Emergency (PASE) is seeking skilled and experienced Veterinary Technicians for a position in the Neurology Department. A PASE Neurology Veterinary Technician will work with veterinary assistants, other veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and board-certified veterinary Neurologists to provide exceptional care for small animal patients within a multidisciplinary specialty hospital. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Commitment to continuing education and growth within a teaching environment. Understanding peri-anesthetic management protocols, with an emphasis on learning and understanding the physiologic conditions that uniquely affect the neurologically-impaired patient. Obtaining and reviewing medical histories for appointments and recheck evaluations. Maintaining efficient daily flow of neurology consultations, rechecks, imaging and surgical procedures. Peri-anesthetic prep and care of patients (i.e., IV catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, blood draws, radiographs, etc). Performing and monitoring anesthesia for patients undergoing advanced imaging (MRI or CT) or procedures (brain and spinal surgery, nerve and muscle biopsy, spinal taps). Post-operative patient monitoring and recovery. Preparing, organizing, and maintaining equipment, appointment rooms, operating rooms, and anesthesia prep areas. Working in a dynamic service that provides both scheduled consultations and emergency care/surgery to small animals experiencing neurological dysfunction. Working alongside a board-certified veterinary neurologist on appointments with roles including but not limited to: Obtaining history, facilitating patient evaluation, and filling medications, optimizing scheduling, and client communication. Working alongside a board-certified veterinary neurologist on inpatient management with roles including but not limited to: Streamlining patient intake and client communications, assisting intra-operatively as deemed appropriate, ensuring sample submissions, and coordinating and facilitating patient discharge.
Schedule:
The Neurology Service runs Monday-Saturday. Four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts per week are available. Schedule details can be discussed.
Qualification and Education:
Three (3) years of veterinary experience (general practice or specialty care) required Veterinary Technician Certification preferred Anesthesia experience required
