Job Description

Overview Most clinics hire you into a role that already exists. This one is different — you'd be joining Keystone Veterinary Care before the doors open and helping shape what this practice looks like from day one. We're a small animal general practice opening this June in Slippery Rock, PA, and we're looking for a veterinary technician — credentialed or not — who is genuinely passionate about animals, thrives in a fast-moving environment, and wants more than just a job. This is a combined technician and client-facing role, so we're looking for someone as comfortable at the front desk as they are in the treatment room. If you take initiative, communicate well with clients, and believe exceptional veterinary care starts with an exceptional team, we want to hear from you. 1 year of previous veterinary experience is required Patient Care Conduct patient assessments and obtain medical histories Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes promptly Administer medications, vaccines, IV fluids, and treatments as prescribed Provide emergency care, including CPR and critical care support Admit and discharge patients per veterinarian instructions Maintain accurate and complete medical records Anesthesia & Surgical Support Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-anesthetic testing and IV catheter placement Calculate and administer anesthetic agents in accordance with regulations Intubate canine and feline patients competently Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during procedures Assist in surgery and maintain a sterile operating environment Clean, pack, autoclave, and maintain surgical instruments Dentistry Perform dental prophylaxis procedures Take and process dental radiographs Monitor anesthesia during dental procedures Identify and communicate dental abnormalities to the veterinarian Diagnostics & Laboratory Collect, prepare, and process laboratory samples Perform routine in-house diagnostic testing Prepare and submit samples to external laboratories Take and process radiographs using proper safety protocols Monitor laboratory inventory and supplies Medication & Pharmacy Maintain working knowledge of medications and proper use Calculate dosages and prepare medications accurately Label and dispense prescriptions in accordance with protocols Maintain controlled substance logs in compliance with regulations Ensure all treatments are accurately documented Client Communication & Education Communicate medical information clearly and professionally Educate clients on preventative care, medications, and treatment plans Conduct surgical admissions and discharges, including post-operative instructions Reinforce the value of recommended care and services Workflow & Team Coordination Prepare exam rooms and assist during appointments Obtain vitals and patient history Anticipate provider needs to support efficient workflow Coordinate daily patient care with veterinarians and team members Animal Handling & Safety Safely and compassionately restrain patients Handle fearful or fractious animals appropriately Follow OSHA, infection control, and safety protocols Handle hazardous materials and controlled substances in compliance with regulations Client Service & Communication Answer incoming calls, triage routine vs. emergency situations, and respond appropriately Schedule appointments efficiently based on patient and clinic needs Greet clients and patients in a warm, professional manner Admit and discharge patients in accordance with established protocols Communicate clearly with clients regarding services, treatment recommendations, and follow-up care Prepare and review estimates with clients as needed Contact clients regarding reminders, follow-ups, and updates to patient information Maintain professionalism and empathy when interacting with emotional or distressed clients Facility & Equipment Maintenance Maintain clean, organized treatment, surgical, and exam areas Clean and maintain equipment per guidelines Support overall clinic cleanliness, including public areas Leadership & Professional Expectations Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and composure in emergencies Support veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and support staff Promote a positive, team-oriented culture Manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment Maintain punctuality and reliability Participate in continuing education and maintain active licensure Working Conditions Exposure to animal odors, noise, waste, cleaning chemicals, and contagious diseases Risk of animal bites and scratches Fast-paced environment with occasional emotional stress Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and more with assistance Ability to remain focused and productive throughout shifts
Pay:
$15.00 - $22.00 per hour
