Job Description

Position Summary The Veterinary Technician provides medical care and support for animals in a shelter/rescue setting. You'll work closely with the medical team, fosters, and volunteers to prepare animals for adoption, treat illness and injury, and ensure each pet gets the care they need to move on to their forever home. Key Responsibilities Assist the medical team with exams and treatments Perform intake exams and initial medical assessments for incoming animals Administer vaccines, medications, and parasite prevention Identify and respond to common rescue-related conditions (URI, parasites, wounds, malnutrition, etc.) Collect and run diagnostic tests (heartworm, fecal, parvo, bloodwork as needed) Maintain clear and accurate medical records for each animal Coordinate with facility staff on medical care, medication instructions, and follow-ups Help triage urgent medical cases and determine next steps Ensure kennels and medical areas are clean, sanitized, and safe Support adoption readiness (health checks, vaccine schedules, medical notes) Qualifications CVT, LVT, or RVT preferred (or equivalent hands-on experience in rescue/shelter medicine) Experience in high-volume or fast-paced veterinary or shelter environment strongly preferred Strong animal handling skills across all temperaments (fearful, feral, or "spicy") Working knowledge of common shelter diseases and treatment protocols Ability to problem-solve with limited resources (because rescue life) Strong communication skills with both medical team, staff, and non-medical fosters/volunteers Experience as a vet tech is required Passing a background check is required Physical Requirements Ability to lift and handle animals up to 50+ lbs Comfortable with active days (lots of movement, standing, and multitasking) What Makes a Great Fit Adaptable and calm in a sometimes chaotic environment Compassionate but practical—you know when to act fast and when to comfort Team player who can work with a mix of staff, volunteers, and fosters Deep commitment to animal welfare and the rescue mission Schedule & Work Environment Part-time Will include weekdays, weekends, adoption events, and occasional on-call needs Rescue/shelter environment with a mix of clinic work and kennels
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Benefits:

What experience do you have in a veterinary clinic, shelter, or rescue setting? What medical tasks are you most confident doing independently? Tell me about a time you disagreed with a coworker. What happened? Why should we trust you with animals that can't tell us what's wrong? Part of our onboarding process requires a phone interview, background check, working interview (to see how you interact with the facility and team) and employment is dependent upon a clear background check. Do you agree to this?
