At the Houston SPCA , we're searching for an Emergency Veterinary Medical Technician who thrives in dynamic environments, loves problem‑solving, and is driven by compassion and teamwork. This role combines emergency animal response with hands-on medical care, leadership, and daily interaction with our community. Adapts quickly and stays positive under stress. What You'll Do Emergency Animal Response Respond to emergency calls for injured or distressed animals across the Houston SPCA service area. Assess situations, prioritize calls, and follow established rescue protocols. Safely capture and handle animals in a wide range of environments—including those that are fearful, fractious, or in hazardous conditions. Veterinary Support Assist veterinarians with routine examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and medical procedures. Administer vaccines, medications, and support diagnostic testing. Prepare animals, instruments, and equipment for surgery. Customer & Community Interaction Offer guidance to potential adopters and provide public education on responsible pet care. Help the community understand Houston SPCA programs and services with warmth and professionalism. Operational Responsibilities Keep accurate electronic records and maintain medical and rescue databases. Ensure supplies, medications (including controlled substances), vehicles, and equipment are properly maintained and inventoried. Participate in daily cleaning and sanitation of assigned areas. What You Bring 3+ years of relevant experience in veterinary, rescue, or related animal care environments. Strong knowledge of animal behavior, breeds, diseases, and medical procedures. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. A valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record. Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in physically demanding situations. Flexibility to work unscheduled or extended hours. A commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning.
