Animal Cancer & Referral Center (ACRC) is seeking an experienced and compassionate Overnight Specialty Veterinary Technician to support our ICU department, which primarily cares for post-operative surgical patients requiring overnight monitoring and advanced nursing care. This position is ideal for a technician who thrives in a specialty environment, enjoys patient monitoring and critical thinking, and values providing attentive, high-quality overnight care to hospitalized patients. ACRC is a specialty oncology and surgical oncology hospital. While we do not operate as a traditional emergency hospital, we are expanding services with the upcoming launch of an urgent referral program focused on oncology-referred and established patients requiring urgent medical evaluation and hospitalization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor and care for hospitalized post-operative surgical patients overnight Obtain and accurately record patient vitals, pain scores, and treatments in PIMS Recognize abnormal patient parameters and promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian Administer medications and treatments as directed Monitor patients receiving oxygen therapy, IV fluids, feeding tubes, drains, or advanced nursing support Maintain accurate treatment sheets and medical records Perform venipuncture, catheter care, blood draws, and laboratory sample processing Assist with patient recovery and sedation/anesthesia monitoring as needed Maintain a clean, organized, and Fear Free-focused patient care environment Support urgent referral and oncology patients requiring overnight hospitalization and monitoring
Qualifications:
Veterinary Technician experience required (specialty, surgery, ICU, or emergency experience preferred) Strong patient assessment and monitoring skills Ability to work independently overnight while maintaining excellent communication with the medical team Comfortable recognizing changes in patient status and escalating concerns appropriately Experience with anesthesia monitoring, post-operative care, and critical nursing skills preferred Fear Free handling and compassionate patient care mindset strongly encouraged
Ideal Candidate:
Experienced veterinary technician with strong technical abilities Comfortable in specialty or emergency medicine environments Highly detail-oriented with excellent drug calculation abilities Calm and detail-oriented under pressure Able to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced hospital Passionate about high-quality nursing care and patient advocacy Compassionate communicator with strong client skills Oncology, ECC, surgery, or specialty experience strongly preferred LVT/RVT preferred
Minimum Qualifications:
3+ years veterinary technician experience required Specialty, emergency, or advanced GP experience preferred High school diploma or equivalent required
