Job Description

Job Description The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to support the Small Animal Community Practice and Shelter Medicine programs. Approximately 60% of this position supports clinical faculty and veterinary students in the Shelter Medicine Clerkship and the pre-clinical curriculum through Multidisciplinary Labs (MDL), including anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, physical examination, and skills assessment. The remaining 40% supports Community/Practice within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Shelter Medicine support is provided at multiple regional partner shelters on a rotating weekly basis. Responsibilities include advanced nursing care procedures such as: Sedation, induction, monitoring, and recovery of anesthetized patients Placement of intravenous catheters General laboratory operations Specialized diagnostic procedures Infection control and isolation management Required Qualifications Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in the Commonwealth of Virginia Considerable experience in veterinary clinical practice Strong proficiency in: Small animal general anesthesia Surgical and operating room procedures IV catheter placement Laboratory procedures Maintenance of anesthetic and surgical equipment Knowledge of veterinary terminology related to anesthesia and surgery Knowledge of CPR Competency in animal handling and restraint Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently Experience maintaining inventory and completing detailed documentation Proficiency with word processing and basic spreadsheet software Preferred Qualifications Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience Pay Band 4
