Job Title:
Veterinary Technician Rocky Mountain Animal Hospital Overview:
The Veterinary Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring high-quality patient care. This position is responsible for assisting with medical procedures, patient assessments, diagnostics, treatments, and client education while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment. Veterinary Technicians are expected to work collaboratively with the medical and client services teams to provide compassionate, professional care to all patients and clients. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting while maintaining a positive attitude and strong work ethic. This role requires excellent communication skills, technical proficiency, and a commitment to continuous learning and patient advocacy. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support Provide nursing care to animals, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with restraint. Perform diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, fecal and urine collection, radiographs, and lab sample collection Perform basic veterinary procedures such as nail trimming, anal gland expression, administering injections,suture/staple removal and safely restraining animals of various sizes and temperaments. Place IV catheters, properly manage and maintain them, and operate and monitor IV fluid therapy. Prepare animals and equipment for surgical and dental procedures; maintain sterile techniques. Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgeries, and emergency situations. Monitor anesthesia and recovery while following surgical and hospital procedures. Recognize signs of stress, fear, or aggression in patients and respond with appropriate handling techniques to ensure safety for both the animal and the team. Monitor and medicate hospitalized patients according to their treatment sheets, ensuring accuracy, timely care, and clear documentation of patient progress. Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and packs. Client Communication & Education Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient status, home-care instructions, preventative health, and follow-up needs. Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and clarity when discussing patient care. Answer incoming phone calls, provide information, and address client questions or concerns as needed, escalating to a veterinarian when appropriate. Hospital Operations Promptly greet clients as they arrive for appointments, obtain patient weight, temp, pulse and respiratory rate, and professionally discuss patient history with owners. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records. Ensure exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites are clean, organized, and well-stocked. Handle and process prescriptions, vaccines, and controlled substances in accordance with regulations. Create prescription labels,fill prescriptions, and dispense medications as directed by a doctor. Support inventory management and equipment maintenance. Use practice management software to schedule appointments, process online pharmacy requests, and create accurate treatment and surgery estimates. Accurately enter charges for services rendered and handle client payments, including cash and card transactions, in accordance with hospital protocols. Provide care for boarding dogs and cats as needed, including administering medications, feeding, and cleaning. Skills & Attributes Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient well-being. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with professionalism and compassion. Comfortable handling animals of all species, sizes and temperaments. Maintain positive attitude and cooperative relationships with other employees Work Environment Fast-paced clinical setting involving standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and exposure to animals, allergens, and medical equipment. Schedules may include long hours, delayed lunches, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on hospital needs. Position Requirements Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant in a clinical setting preferred Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technicians (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred; non-credentialed candidates with substantial hands-on experience will be considered 5+ years of experience preferred for advanced responsibilities, emergency, or leadership-level technician roles Demonstrated proficiency in: Patient restraint and handling (small and/or large animal, as applicable) Venipuncture, catheter placement, and sample collection Anesthesia monitoring and recovery Diagnostic testing and laboratory procedures Radiology positioning and imaging Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced or emergency environment Strong communication skills with veterinarians, team members, and clients Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain calm under pressure Reliable attendance and punctuality with flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed Professional appearance and demeanor; business casual or scrubs required Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to teamwork and patient care Physical ability to lift, restrain, and assist with animals up to 50+ lbs , with or without assistance
Pay:
$18.00 - $21.00 per hour
