Job Title:
HVAC Technician Job Description This role provides routine and specialized building repair and maintenance support for a hospital facility, including hospital equipment and properties, using a computerized maintenance management system. The HVAC Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the hospital environment. The position also offers technical support and guidance to facility staff and actively participates in safety programs, education, and training. Responsibilities Perform routine and specialized maintenance and repair on hospital buildings, equipment, and properties using a computerized maintenance management system. Identify, diagnose, and correct issues in mechanical systems, including pumps, belt drives, gear reduction drives, piping, valve diagnosis, and replacement. Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and related components used for wastewater distribution and disposal. Install, test, maintain, and diagnose electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, fixtures, components, and systems. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair control systems such as sensors, limit switches, solenoids, motors, and related components. Service and maintain HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, large fan arrays, large exhaust fans, fan coil units, DX split units, humidifiers, and hydronic pumps of various sizes. Work on building automation systems and HVAC control systems, including pneumatic controls, DDC controls, PE switches, damper controls, low-voltage safety circuits, and VAV maintenance. Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime. Read, interpret, and work from wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation to support installation and repair activities. Carry out carpentry and general building maintenance tasks as needed to support facility operations. Conduct air balancing, metal duct work, and inspection and servicing of fire and smoke dampers. Provide technical support and general guidance to facility staff on the repair, operation, and safe use of facility equipment, components, and utilities. Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately in the computerized maintenance management system. Participate actively in hospital and departmental safety programs, educational opportunities, and related training. Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to prioritize tasks and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner. Support hospital operations by working assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Essential Skills Proficiency in using computerized systems and computerized maintenance management systems for all aspects of job performance. Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair skills for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and utility systems. Ability to install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, fan coil units, DX split units, humidifiers, hydronic pumps, and large exhaust fans. Experience with building automation systems and HVAC control systems, including pneumatic controls, DDC controls, PE switches, damper controls, low-voltage safety circuits, and VAV maintenance. Ability to install, test, maintain, and diagnose electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, fixtures, and systems. Skill in plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance for wastewater distribution and disposal systems. Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving abilities for complex facility systems. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation. Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices for HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ability to work effectively unsupervised and within a team environment. Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills. Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and significant overtime as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in general facility maintenance and building maintenance within a healthcare or similar environment. Hands-on experience with carpentry and general building repair tasks. Familiarity with air balancing, metal duct work, and the operation and maintenance of fire and smoke dampers. Ability to perform schematic reading, equipment installation, repair, and preventive maintenance across multiple building systems. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety in all maintenance activities. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based inside a hospital, working primarily with HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems in a clinical and critical-care environment. The standard schedule is typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the expectation of working weekends, holidays, and significant overtime to support continuous hospital operations. You will work around active clinical areas and building infrastructure, using tools and equipment suited for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing tasks. The environment requires strict adherence to safety procedures, infection control practices, and hospital policies while performing maintenance and repair work throughout the facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
