Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 4 years experience operating heavy machinery. The Hydraulic Crane /Heavy Equipment Operator & Scrap Metal Buyer is responsible for safely operating and maintaining equipment to move, load, and unload scrap metal materials and other objects at a busy scrap metal recycling facility. This position performs daily inspections and conducts all work in accordance with company safety. Responsibilities
  • Operate cranes (material handler) to lift, move, sort, load, and unload metal material
  • Operate forklift, bobcat, and payloaders as neededto lift, move, sort load and unload metal material
  • Ability to sort metal material with magnet or grapple crane equipment
  • Maintain radio communication with crew members while observing details on the ground.
  • Observe hand signals from other crew members and surrounding area.
  • Perform and log daily equipment inspections
  • Monitor equipment operations and identify malfunctions.
  • Report and/or perform/assist with routine and scheduled maintenance on equipment as required.
  • Inspect, adjust, and perform minor repairs.
  • Learn different grades of ferrous and nonferrous material, purchase scrap metals from customers
  • Hand weigh scrap material
  • Record material
  • Comply with Company and Client policies and procedures.
  • Support a zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
  • Other duties as assigned Monday through Friday (7:30/7:45am to 5/5:15pm) - Rotating Saturday 7:30am until 2:15pm Qualifications Proven experience operating heavy machinery Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety practices Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience in metals industry a plus Able to work in all weather and temperature environments Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing job requirements as needed.   • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Walk, sit, stand, climb ladders and stairs lift up to 50 pounds
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
