Job Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, must be able to plan and layout work details, perform highly complex mechanical work involved in the inspection, repair and installation of mechanical equipment in Hydro plant generating stations, must be able to assume responsibility for operation of the Hydro plant equipment, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned: Inspect and maintain all Hydro plant mechanical equipment, such as turbines, pumps, fans, compressors, piping systems, heat exchange apparatus, head gates, tail gates, governor system, diesel generator, and appurtenant equipment in accordance with applicable statutory rules and regulations. Diagnose mechanical troubles of Hydro plant equipment and correct or recommend corrective measures. Perform operations requiring reasonable precision with machine tools, such as drill presses, pipe and bolt threading machines, band saws, punch or shear, etc. Perform precision work with hand and bench tools in connection with the fitting, adjustment, alignment, etc. of governors, bearings, shafting, gears and similar Hydro plant equipment. Fabricate tools and fixtures for routine special use. Set up rigging for the installation and maintenance of Hydro plant mechanical equipment, foundation, supports, etc. Lay out work from prints or verbal instructions. Direct work of assistants. Place in service, or remove from service, and operate in a safe manner, Hydro turbine-generator and related auxiliary equipment, station service electric circuits, air circuit breakers, oil circuit breakers, disconnect switches, transformers, storage batteries, recording instruments, governor system, generator bearings, turbine bearings, air compressors, heat exchangers, head gates, and tail gates. Assist in the daily Hydro plant operation, and routinely perform the Hydro Plant Coordinators duties, pertaining to Hydro plant operation, during absences. Prepare maintenance and other routine reports. Perform necessary housekeeping. Other duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must have worked as a Mechanical Technician, Process Operator, or have had equivalent experience in industrial plant, pump station, power plant, or similar facility operations and maintenance. Must have at least three years' experience in industrial plant, pump station, power plant, or similar facility or related work. Power plant experience is required. Have a thorough knowledge of mechanical work, such as piping and accessory installations, turbine and pump maintenance, bench and machine work, etc. Be familiar with advanced mechanical principles. Be familiar with the strength and use of ropes, chains, cables, etc., as used in rigging. Be proficient in the use of and nomenclature of tools and equipment ordinarily used. Have a thorough knowledge of the operation, construction and function of turbines, pumps, heaters, piping systems, regulator and mechanical control devices, etc. Be familiar with various kinds of metals, their applications, available sizes and shapes. Be able to compute bills of material for jobs, working from specifications or from oral instructions. Be able to become familiar with Authority's electrical and mechanical tagging rules. Have ability to understand and perform semi-routine operations of high complexity and considerable variety where standard methods of procedure are available. Be able to become familiar with Authority's safety rules, and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid. Be able to become familiar with the location of, and operation of, all of the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Age - 21 minimum. Must have full use of mental and physical faculties. Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require. Ability to swim, walk long distances, ascend and descend ladders and stairs. Ability to safely lift, carry and handle supplies and equipment weighing at least 75 pounds waist high.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Be willing to re-locate and reside within thirty-five miles of Toledo Bend Hydro Plant. Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents. Be willing to attend and take part in safety meetings. Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job. Be willing to work irregular or extra hours as required. Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both supervisors and subordinates. Be capable of assuming supervisory responsibilities. Be especially neat, clean and orderly in work and person. Must be capable and willing to perform assigned tasks with minimum supervision and work flexible hours. Must be able to travel occasionally (training, logistical support, etc.) Must have a valid Driver's License.
