Job Description

Instrument & Controls Technician - Commissioning / Startup Port Arthur, TX | Onsite | 12+ month contract TWIC Required iSphere is looking for an Instrument & Controls Technician with real commissioning and startup experience inside LNG, gas processing, cryogenic, or large process plant environments. This is not a "sit in the trailer and update spreadsheets" kind of role. The team needs somebody comfortable in the field, around live startup activity, troubleshooting problems in real time while everybody suddenly decides your issue is now the top priority on site. This role supports commissioning, turnover, and startup activities tied to plant instrumentation, analyzers, turbine controls, and process systems. A big part of the work revolves around system readiness, loop checks, calibration, troubleshooting, turnover coordination, and helping get systems safely handed over to Operations. The environment is fast-moving and heavily operations-focused, especially during startup windows where schedules tighten up quickly and sleep becomes more of a suggestion than a guarantee. What they're really looking for:
  • 5+ years of I&C experience in LNG, gas processing, cryogenic, or similar process facilities
  • Strong commissioning and startup background
  • Hands-on experience with instrument calibration, loop checks, and functional testing
  • Experience with GE Mark VI turbine controls
  • Experience with analyzers including GCs, moisture analyzers, and gas quality systems
  • Ability to read P&IDs, loop drawings, and control narratives
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in live operational environments
  • Understanding of turnover and system completion processes This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Commissioning teams to help ensure systems are tested, documented, functional, and ready for startup.
There's also a strong ownership component here. The team wants somebody who sees a problem, digs into it, helps solve it, and follows it through instead of assuming somebody else picked it up. The schedule can include extended hours, nightshift support, and startup-related field execution when critical milestones hit. In other words… if you've been through a plant startup before, you already know exactly what that sentence really means.
