Job Description
Claims Adjuster/Manager The Utah Risk Management Agency (URMA) is seeking an experienced claims adjuster/manager to provide claims adjusting services for its operations. This is an exempt at-will position reporting to the Claims and Litigation Attorney. Must submit cover letter and resume. Position is open until filled. Resumes will be reviewed weekly. Start date for this position will be July 1, 2026.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating and resolving general liability and property damage claims. Coordinates the handling of claims and provides claims support for URMA and its individual members. Assists members in determining validity of claims, adjusting and resolving claims. Negotiates disposition of claims with claimants, members and outside counsel. Works closely with members, outside counsel and URMA staff. Promotes URMA within the community and industry.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Reviews incoming claims notices, investigates, evaluates, reserves, negotiates and documents claims. Enters, updates and maintains claim information in risk management system (Origami). Establishes and maintains proper indemnity and expense reserves. Provides services to members to ensure optimal handling and timely resolution of claims. Manages claims files information in the Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS). Provides reports and member support for regular open-claims review. Evaluates claims and provides support for subrogation and cost recovery for claims. Produces timely, clear and concise reports, including findings and recommendations. Maintains thorough knowledge of URMA organization, operations, policies, and procedures Analyzes insurance coverage specific to claims. Responsible for prompt and proper resolution of all claims. Provides support to members related to insurance policies and coverage information. Updates relevant parties as needed, providing new information as it becomes available, and its impact upon the liability analysis and settlement options. Maintains effective working relationships with members and URMA staff Articulates the positions of the agency to others regarding claims and claims process. Negotiates disposition of claims with members, claimants and legal counsel. Tracks and controls legal expenses to ensure cost-effective resolution. Attends meetings related to claims. Appropriately deals with information that is considered personal and confidential. Builds positive relations and partnerships with member cities, adjusters, and others. Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
10 years claims adjusting/management experience. Experience working property and casualty claims. Extensive knowledge of coverage, liability and damages analysis. Thorough understanding of claims and litigation process. Advanced understanding of insurance claims processes. Knowledge of Utah law regarding insurance coverage, liability and claims management. Excellent communication skills. Effective time management skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Operates a variety of modern office equipment.Pay:
