Job Description:

We are working with an extremely exciting VC-backed Tax Technology start-up software house that is going through a huge period of growth globally. The business is building technology that is fundamentally changing how businesses manage indirect tax compliance, with a particular focus on automation, scalability and reducing operational friction across multiple jurisdictions. As with many high-growth VC-backed businesses, the environment is fast-paced, ambitious and constantly evolving. The team is made up of individuals who are comfortable operating with pace, taking ownership and helping shape processes in real time rather than inheriting fully built structures. The business has already attracted significant investment and is scaling rapidly, with tax sitting at the core of the product offering rather than as a support function. They are now looking to hire a Compliance Lead to take ownership of the end-to-end indirect tax filing and compliance process across a large number of jurisdictions globally. This individual will become a key operational pillar within the tax function, helping build scalable compliance processes that allow the wider business to continue growing efficiently. The role will suit somebody who enjoys combining technical compliance knowledge with process improvement, automation and operational problem solving.

Within the first few weeks:

• Working closely with the Head of Tax to take ownership of the monthly and periodic indirect tax filing cycle across thousands of returns globally
• Managing filing timelines, deliverables and coordination across multiple teams internally
• Reviewing and overseeing filings to ensure accuracy, consistency and timely submission
• Supporting reconciliation and control processes across the compliance function Over time:
• Designing and implementing scalable compliance processes that can support continued international growth
• Partnering closely with Engineering and Product teams to improve automation across the compliance workflow
• Identifying opportunities to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency
• Building robust controls and processes to minimise compliance risk What they are looking for
• Strong indirect tax compliance experience across multiple jurisdictions
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately within high-volume environments
• Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
• Clear and concise communication skills, particularly within fast-moving environments
• Strong understanding of reconciliations, controls and operational compliance processes
• Somebody comfortable working within a scale-up environment where processes are continuously evolving
• Experience working alongside automation, systems or technology-driven compliance processes would be highly advantageous What they are looking for from an individual perspective This environment will suit somebody who naturally takes ownership and enjoys operating within a fast-paced, high-growth business where there isn't always a pre-defined playbook.

The successful individual will likely thrive in an environment where speed, accuracy and accountability are equally important. This is not a business where work can be passed between multiple layers of hierarchy - individuals are trusted to own problems end-to-end and build solutions independently. They are particularly interested in people who are energised by building scalable processes within an evolving business, rather than those who prefer heavily structured environments with rigid processes already in place. Equally, this role is probably less suited to somebody who is primarily focused on people management or who requires significant direction and oversight day-to-day. The business operates with a very flat structure and places a huge emphasis on autonomy, quality and execution.
