INDUSTRIAL FIRE CHIEF
Blythewood, SC 29016Full-time Full-time Summary:
Under administrative direction, plans, directs, manages and oversees the activities and operations of the Fire and Rescue Department. This will include policy development, fiscal management, code enforcement, emergency medical services (EMS), fire safety and fire suppression and prevention; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to NEMS senior management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides oversight to all matters pertaining to the Department. Ensures that the vision of reducing and eliminating risk for our clients is achieved at the highest level possible within budgetary constraints. Provides effective leadership for all personnel necessary to carry out the business and mission of the Department. Manages the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the Department. Develops, recommend and administer policies and procedures pursuant to the goals/objectives of the Department. Establishes and coordinates appropriate service and staffing levels. Establishes recruitment/retention plans to attract and retain quality personnel. Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates assigned personnel. Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures. Develops metrics to identify potential issues and directs actions for resolution. Performs final interpretations of fire codes and ordinances to ensure consistency and compliance with mandate rules, regulation, codes and ordinances. Works with personnel to correct deficiencies and implement corrective action. Participants in the development and administration of the Department's budget. Explain and justify Department programs, policies and activities. Coordinates activities with other departments and outside agencies/organizations as needed. Will serve as NorthStar EMS' liaison with clients. Will stay up-dated on latest Fire Department/EMS standards and trends and evaluate possible implementation. Provide expertise in fire prevention, fire suppression and fire investigation strategies. Meets the NorthStar EMS job descriptions requirements for Industrial Firefighter and/or Industrial Firefighter/Paramedic (as required). Performs other duties as required by superiors. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees, hospital staffs, fire departments, rescue squads, police departments, comm. Centers, management, volunteer fire departments and the general public. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to handle conflict situations with good judgment, professionalism and courtesy. Certification as Firefighter I/II preferred. OSHA 30 Certification is preferred. Will be required within 12 months of hire. Pass a background check. Successfully complete the departments physical agility requirements. AO Pumper. Will be required within 12 months of hire. Preference given to Firefighters who are an EMT Basic, Advanced or Paramedic. Must be CPR certified. (Optional)Driving Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age Valid driver license Current State of Alabama EMT-Paramedic, EMT-Advanced/Intermediate or EMT-Basic license with Driver (EVOC) endorsement printed on wallet card. Not convicted DUI, possession of drugs/drug paraphernalia, suspended/revoked driver license or driving vehicle with suspended/revoked license in the past five years. No more than two traffic tickets in the past three years. No more than two motor vehicle accidents in the past three years. No more than one traffic ticket and one motor vehicle accident in the past three years.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: Must have the physical agility to walk, climb, crawl, bend, push, pull, lift, and balance over less than ideal terrain. Must have good physical stamina and endurance, measured by the ability to undertake, without adverse effects, lifting, carrying, and balancing loads in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Must have the ability to see different color spectrums. Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 in at least one eye. Must have good eye-hand coordination and sufficient manual dexterity to manipulate equipment, instrumentation and medications. Must be able to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings in human physical conditions by using visual, auditory, olfactory and tactile observations. Must be oriented to reality.Specific tasks required will include:
Task 1 - Pass pre-hire physical Must climb 5 flights of stairs, full PPE, with SCBA carrying hose pack (not on air) Roll out 2 sections of 2 ½ inch hose Drag "Rescue Dummy" the length of 50-foot hose. Roll up hose Task 2 - Spaghetti Drill with blacked out mask Task 3 - Hoist 50-foot roll of 2 ½ or 3 inch hose, three (3) times, using hand-over-hand technique. 2-minute axe chop.STRESS FACTORS

Needs to communicate tactfully and sensitively to volunteer agencies. Shall remain apolitical while representing NEMS. Shall abstain from any and all political involvement with outside agencies while on duty or representing NEMS. Must speak English clearly and write legibly.
