rantoul, illinois Posted 2 days ago Closes 7/14/2026 Job details Summary Spherion $25.00 - $30.00 per hour Permanent 6:45 AM - 7:00 PM Industry manufacturing & production (Production Occupations) Reference number S_175799 The Maintenance Technician supports the shift, Maintenance Manager, Electricians with projects in keeping production equipment and facility systems running safely and reliably. Maintenance Technicians handle preventative maintenance tasks, perform repairs, clean and disassemble equipment components, downstream equipment and continue to develop mechanical and facility skills. Maintenance Technicians do not operate or adjust extrusion production lines ? they work alongside PVC Processing Technicians as partners: Maintenance restores and sustains equipment capability; Processing operates it.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Medium work: up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally / up to 30 lbs. frequently; buddy lift required over 40 lbs. Ability to climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and reach in all directions as required Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and perform repetitive physical tasks Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times Physical stamina required for 12-hour rotating shifts in a manufacturing environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT
... This position works in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. The facility operates 24/7 with rotating 12-hour shifts. Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must be able to respond to emergency maintenance call-ins outside of scheduled shifts. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high heat, and chemicals. Protected from weather conditions but exposed to temperature changes; some outdoor exposure for grounds work. Proximity to forklifts, pallet jacks, and other powered industrial equipment. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and airborne particles. Some outdoor exposure when performing grounds or exterior facility maintenance.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventative Maintenance Equipment Support (40%) Handles scheduled PM tasks, equipment inspections, and routine servicing Lubricate bearings, chains, and moving components on assigned equipment per PM schedule Support maintenance of downstream production equipment including cutters, pullers, and robotic systems Clean, disassemble, and reassemble equipment components and parts as directed including extrusion machine components, tooling, and downstream equipment Use hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment safely and correctly on extrusion and downstream equipment Safety Facility Operations (25%) Follow all safety protocols: lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space awareness, and PPE requirements Perform basic facility maintenance tasks: cleaning out filters, etc. Identify and report observable equipment anomalies, leaks, or safety hazards immediately Maintain a clean and orderly work environment in compliance with all safety regulations and company procedures Comply with OSHA safety standards including hazard communication and ergonomic guidelines Promote a culture of health and safety in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards Documentation & Work Orders (20%) Complete basic work order documentation and parts usage logs under guidance Monitor inventory levels of parts, equipment, and supplies; report needs to supervisor Utilize maintenance management systems to track, inspect, and report equipment status Read and interpret basic maintenance manuals, diagrams, and work instructions Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to problem-solving efforts Ensure all guards and safety equipment are in place and functional before returning equipment to operators Additional Responsibilities Participate in company meetings, safety t Spherion has helped thousands of people just like you find work happiness!
