A safety-first manager is our top priority—this role must model safe leadership on the floor, actively coach and correct safe work practices in real time, and ensure maintenance operations run with disciplined adherence to PPE, equipment safety standards, and environmental compliance. The Night Maintenance performs nightly general maintenance on a large industrial scrap metal shredder after daily production runs. Inspects equipment, cleans and lubricates components, replaces or tightens worn parts, and completes minor repairs to prevent downtime. Follows lockout/tagout and safety procedures, documents work performed and communicates machine condition and needed follow-up to the next shift. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) every time you enter a guarded area, open access doors, or work near moving/energized parts. Inspect and locate sources of problems by observing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of the equipment to ensure functionality, listening for problems and using measuring and testing instruments. Perform maintenance on machinery and equipment (Granulators, Hammermills, Baghouses, Rotors, etc.). Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using lifts, hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. Complete wire feed and stick welding. Tighten handrails, guards, access doors, etc. Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Communicate via radio with multiple people frequently about safety, deducts, and any other appropriate radio communication to ensure an efficient work environment. Learn the different types of commodities that will be dealt with while running equipment.
Keep work area clear:
manage trip hazards, scrap on walkways, oil leaks, and fire risks complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Wear required PPE Continuously expand technical knowledge through training. While performing the duties, the employee must be able to safely climb in and out of heavy equipment and trucks multiple times per shift and work in physically tight, elevated, or awkward positions while performing repairs. The position involves standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and walking for extended periods on uneven or outdoor surfaces. PPE will be provided and must be worn at all times. Work Environment Work is performed in a large industrial scrap metal recycling facility around heavy, high-powered machinery, moving conveyors, and loud noise. Exposure to dust, grease, vibration, heat/cold, and outdoor conditions may occur. Strict safety rules apply, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and required PPE such as hearing and eye protection, gloves, hard hat, and steel-toe boots. A high level of situational awareness, physical stamina, and adherence to safe body mechanics is essential to succeed.
