Job Description
Job Title:
Mechanical and Robotics Technician / Industrial Maintenance Technician Job Description This role leads a team of service technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of highly automated packaging, material handling, and distribution equipment in a large, fast-paced facility. You design solutions for complex mechanical and electrical problems, manage maintenance projects, and provide hands-on technical support for automated conveyor and robotic systems. You also play a key role in training, mentoring, and developing both in-house and contract technicians while ensuring a safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Responsibilities Promote and maintain a safe working environment by consistently following and enforcing all safety procedures and standards. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all conveyor systems and associated material handling equipment throughout the facility. Lead, perform, and audit preventative maintenance procedures on automated, mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems to minimize downtime. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot relay logic, ladder diagrams, and control components including photo-eyes, motor starters, limit switches, proximity sensors, solenoids, and related devices. Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems, including motors, wiring, and control systems. Create, update, and close out work orders in the maintenance system, accurately recording labor hours, equipment details, maintenance activities, and parts used. Develop and implement training plans for service technicians to build technical skills in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and robotic maintenance. Provide leadership and guidance to service and contract technicians, including task assignment, coaching, and technical support. Develop work plans and coordinate emergency repairs for critical assets to restore operations quickly and safely. Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders, track maintenance history, and support data-driven decisions. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs. Apply knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), industrial electronics, and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and internal safety requirements. Support robotic maintenance activities, including diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on robotic equipment and high-speed automation systems. Maintain a positive, collaborative working relationship with teams across the facility and support operations in achieving performance goals. Travel up to approximately 50% as needed for training, support, or project work. Perform physically demanding tasks such as repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking, including lifting parts and tools averaging 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Work effectively in conditions that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures (inside and outside), noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long periods, and wet or uneven surfaces. Why Work Here? You join an entrepreneurial and inclusive culture that emphasizes collaboration, continuous learning, and shared success. The organization invests in your growth with formal training on high-speed automation and robotic equipment, providing exposure to cutting-edge technology across a large network of facilities. You benefit from a comprehensive total rewards program that supports your career development, recognition, well-being, and overall compensation. There is strong upward mobility, with many employees progressing into new roles and promotions within their first year, and opportunities to travel and gain varied experiences across more than a thousand facilities. You build a long-term career where your performance is recognized, your skills are developed, and your contributions have a visible impact. Work Environment You work in a large, highly automated distribution facility equipped with high-speed material handling systems and extensive robotic components. The environment is data-driven, with performance tracked through clear metrics and systems to ensure expectations are transparent, without day-to-day micromanagement. You can expect to walk significant distances—often around 10,000 steps per day—while moving throughout the facility to support equipment and operations. Shifts are typically 10 hours in length, and candidates must be open to any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs. The physical setting may include small or confined spaces, exposure to dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures both inside and outside, noise, vibration, and standing or walking on concrete or occasionally wet or uneven surfaces for extended periods. You regularly handle tools and parts, perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordinated hand, wrist, and foot movements, and work around advanced automation, conveyors, PLC-controlled systems, and robotic equipment.
