Job Title:
Mechanic II Job Description The Mechanic II performs skilled mechanical work on moderate to highly complex natural gas engines and compressor equipment in a shop environment. This role focuses on the disassembly, positioning, reassembly, testing, and painting of components using manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools, while strictly adhering to Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations. The mechanic reads and interprets detailed prints and engineering specifications and uses precision measuring tools to ensure high-quality, reliable repairs and rebuilds. Responsibilities Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex equipment using manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools. Clean, inspect, and repair natural gas engine and compressor components in a shop environment. Rebuild compressor cylinders and pistons and recondition connecting rods and related components. Perform shop repair work on pumps, compressors, and associated mechanical systems. Use and read micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators to verify dimensions and tolerances. Interpret and work from detailed drawings, prints, and engineering specifications to complete repair and assembly tasks. Set up and run test operations in accordance with engineering specifications to verify equipment performance. Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform repairs on equipment to restore proper operation. Apply knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics when assembling, testing, and repairing equipment. Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety rules and regulations, maintaining a safe work area at all times. Maintain good housekeeping practices to keep the shop area clean, organized, and compliant with safety requirements. Use basic math skills and read schematics to support accurate assembly, testing, and repair activities. Operate a variety of shop tools and equipment safely and effectively. Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to support operational requirements. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly or heavy equipment repairs and maintenance. Ability to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications. Ability to perform troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment. Ability to set up and run test operations following engineering specifications. Knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment (strong knowledge preferred). Knowledgeable in safety regulations and good housekeeping requirements. Basic math skills and the ability to read schematics. Familiarity with operation of manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools and equipment. Experience with pump repair and compressor repair. Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics. Ability to use and read micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators. Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications 2 years of experience in operations or service center operation applications preferred. Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment preferred. Prior experience performing shop repair work, including rebuilding compressor cylinders and pistons and reconditioning connecting rods. Comfort working in a structured shop environment with established processes and safety standards. Why Work Here? Work hours may include overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet operational demands, so flexibility in scheduling is important. The environment is focused on mechanical repair and rebuild activities for natural gas engines, compressors, pumps, and related equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Saint Rose, LA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
