(AEL) is Florida's largest environmental and analytical testing laboratory network. AEL-Miramar is a full-service laboratory, performing analysis in organics, metals, wet chemistry, and microbiology. The clientele includes a wide range of consultants, industrial operations, and government agencies. Only candidates with the specific experience listed below will be considered. We are currently looking for an Inorganic Department Manager for our Miramar, FL , facility. This position is full-time with health benefits (medical, dental, vision), PTO, floating holiday, FSA account, 401K retirement plan with up to 4% Company match; short and long-term disability and life term insurance paid by AEL. Salary and compensation are dependent upon experience. The position will supervise the wet chemistry, microbiology, and metals staff in performing testing of drinking water, wastewater, soil, and other matrices using a variety of instrumentation including Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Segmented Flow Analyzer (SFA), and Ion Chromatography (IC). Testing performed can include a wide range of EPA and Standard Methods for analysis of nutrients (TP, TKN, NH3, NO2, NO3), CBOD/BOD, oil and grease, anions (chloride, sulfate, fluoride), total and volatile residues, RCRA4 and RCRA8 metals, and various bacteriological testing. The duties and responsibilities of this position include: Responsible for the timely setup of methods and samples on instruments as measured by Thruput and Turnaround time Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement quality and safety policies and procedures Implements strategic business initiatives with the objective of consistently producing accurate test results Conducts SOP development, review, edit and as needed Manages Method Detection Limits (MDLs) and Demonstration of Capabilities (DOCs) and assures completion throughout lab as required Understands operation and theory of all instrumentation in department Responsible for troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance and repairs on instruments as needed Effectively manages staff performance; one-on-one meetings, evaluations, and training. Coaches and mentors staff and facilitates their personal and professional growth Performs data review in Horizon LIMS and assigns peer review groups Schedules department work days and hours for all analysts to comply with operational, method, regulatory and client requirements Tracks supplies and places purchase orders for/with the Lab Manager Assists with duties to manage Health and Safety and Hazardous Waste program Develops methods for new analyses Special projects, research, method performance improvements Attend and provide updates for daily status meetings Helps in the process of hiring and training both new and existing employees Works with other DMs in network Provides timely responses to internal and external inquiries related to quality and production Maintains high data quality, works with QA and performs well in audits Establish and maintain effective communication with staff
Requirements:
BA or BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or some science field Five (5) or more years' experience in a commercial environmental laboratory certified under TNI or equivalent program All experience must have been in a commercial environmental laboratory certified under NELAP/TNI or an equivalent State program . College course work, grant work, or research work will not count toward this experience requirement. Additional Selection /
Hiring Information:
Experience with Horizon LIMS, Thermo ICP, Seal Segmented Flow Analyzer, Metrohm IC, and other bench chemistry instruments.
