Job Description

Category Pharmacy - Pharmacy Technician Job Type Contract Support pharmaceutical services in a hospital inpatient pharmacy setting by assisting pharmacists with medication preparation and dispensing in accordance with established procedures. This role requires careful adherence to safety protocols, sterile compounding regulations, and effective communication to ensure optimal patient care.

Kekaha, HI Schedule:
40 hours per week; shifts between 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM, 7 days a week (specific days vary based on schedule)

Contract Key Responsibilities:
Assist pharmacists by preparing medication orders including unit dosed oral, reconstituted, topical, and IV solutions. Prepare intravenous, epidural, or intrathecal solutions using sterile techniques compliant with established SOPs and current regulations. Refer all completed drug orders to the pharmacist for final verification before dispensing. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment, adhering to infection control and safety policies. Pre-pack medications and remove expired stock from shelves and automated dispensing machines. Deliver medications to hospital floors or authorized personnel. Maintain crash cart trays, emergency medication boxes, and pharmacy supplies inventory. Respond to telephone inquiries, triaging calls per departmental guidelines. Assist nursing staff with Pyxis troubleshooting and perform special projects as assigned. Adhere to confidentiality standards regarding patient and employee information. Use proper personal protective equipment when handling hazardous materials. Complete required competency assessments and maintain compliance documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid Hawaii Pharmacy Technician registration from the State Board of Pharmacy. Minimum two years of pharmacy technician experience in community or hospital settings with hands-on involvement in pharmaceutical services.
Additional Information:
Holiday pay is provided based on hours worked on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Compliance completion and travel details must be communicated to the facility through the designated portal upon assignment acceptance.
