Position Overview:
The Hawbridge School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Instructional Assistant to support teaching and learning in our Lower School. This role is essential in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where all students can thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate is collaborative, adaptable, and committed to supporting the whole child through meaningful relationships, individualized support, and active participation in the learning process. Working closely with the lead teacher, the Instructional Assistant provides academic and behavioral support through one-on-one and small group instruction, while also contributing to the daily flow and organization of the classroom with professionalism, initiative, and care.
Key Responsibilities:
Create a Safe, Inclusive, and Respectful Classroom Supervise students and support a safe, structured environment by reinforcing positive behavior and addressing conflicts using approved and respectful practices. Embrace and Teach Through Diversity Support inclusive classroom practices by honoring student differences and helping ensure all students feel respected and represented. Engage in Place-Based and Outdoor Learning Assist the teacher in facilitating hands-on and community-connected learning experiences, including outdoor activities when appropriate. Foster Creativity Through the Arts and Play Support student engagement and expression by assisting with creative, play-based, and arts-integrated learning activities. Know Your Content and Make it
Meaningful:
Reinforce teacher-led instruction by providing academic support to individuals and small groups to strengthen understanding of core content. Differentiate Instruction and Support Student Growth Provide targeted one-on-one and small group support, monitor student progress, and adapt assistance to meet diverse learning and behavioral needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate and Contribute to a Professional Learning Community Work closely with teachers and staff to support classroom instruction, complete clerical tasks, and participate in professional learning opportunities. Model Ethical, Reflective, and Purpose-Driven Teaching Follow established policies, maintain confidentiality, use sound judgment, and carry out responsibilities with professionalism and care for students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; teaching license or certification in your specialty area preferred Experience working with elementary-aged students in a school or enrichment setting Strong classroom management and student engagement skills A collaborative spirit and willingness to contribute to a close-knit school community Passion for progressive education and student-centered learning
