Comments and Other Information Positions within this class are under the general direction of the classroom teacher and under the supervision of the site administrator or designee. Experience working with students with autism is preferred. Individuals selected for this job may be required to provide intensive services to students. Individuals selected for this job are required to attend specified trainings to learn additional job skills to work with students. For the 24-25 school year, some of the time required for these mandatory trainings will be in addition to their normal hours worked. These trainings will be held on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Wednesday of each month. These training sessions will be 2 hours in length and will begin 15 minutes after the dismissal bell. Staff will be paid per contract for any additional time (above their normal hours) required to attend these trainings. Individuals selected for this job understand that the location of this program will likely change for the 25-26 school year and they would be required to move to that new site with the program.
Additional duties may include:
  • Work with student(s) on methods of communication including non-verbal communication and use of devices to help enhance communication; helps students learn normal speech patterns by helping them produce sounds, words, and sentences;
  • Work with student(s) on de-escalation techniques, in both a preventative manner and when a student might be experiencing a crisis;
  • Work with students to help them develop in areas such as socialization, play, self-help, and motor skills;
  • Demonstrate high levels of patience and understanding, maintaining an attitude of calm when working with students;
  • Implement assigned sections of pupil behavior management plans, which may involve use of approved behavior modification, physical management techniques or other skills or knowledge to establish and maintain appropriate behavior;
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.
NORMAL SHIFT HOURS WILL LIKELY BE
7:30AM-3:00PM - Mandatory Meetings (as mentioned above) will extend past 3pm, possibly as late as 4:30pm.
