Instructional Coach (Middle School & High School)

Supervisor:
Assistant Superintendent Objective:
An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. Instructional coaches work collaboratively as a team with other educators. Coaching is a non-evaluative learning partnership between an instructional coach and a teacher with the goal of learning together, thereby improving instruction and student achievement. Instructional coaches and teachers share responsibility to achieve high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and feedback.

The below lists are not ranked in order of importance Essential Functions Model and/or co-teach lessons in classrooms Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches Work with teachers and administration to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs, and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc., to support classroom instruction and planning, including identifying new resources Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons Support teachers by helping with the "strategic how" of teaching; share multiple instructional strategies/processes/routines with teachers Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher's professional growth and students' success Provide job-embedded informal professional development for teachers through modeling engaging, standards-based teaching as needed Manage and distribute instructional resources to teachers and provide training on the use of those resources Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies that engage all students. Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed. Demonstrate knowledge using a variety of assessment tools. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter. Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data. Provide support for classroom management strategies. Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum. Instruct and support teachers with curriculum software products, and classroom/curriculum related technologies. Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals. Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers. Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies. Other Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the selection of educational materials Promote good public relations Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues Qualifications Appropriate state of Ohio certifications/license Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work effectively with others Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Effective, active listening skills Organizational and problem-solving skills Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age-appropriate tasks Knowledge about the necessary procedures to keep students safe, secure and healthy both physically and social / emotionally Ability to work in a team environment Computer/word processing skills Equipment Operated Any and all pertinent equipment to the foregoing job description and the ability to learn all new and upcoming technology Additional Working Conditions Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue Occasional interaction with unruly students Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds Complies with all Louisville Board of Education policies and procedures This job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
