Full-time, tenure-track, 9-month, General Funds beginning Fall 2026, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. May be for Leeward CC day, evening, or weekend offering on- and off-campus, such as Leeward CC Waianae Moku and local high schools (pending background clearance), grant locations, or other satellite campuses.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Under general supervision, develop curriculum for and teach a wide range of Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Biology courses in face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online learning environments and perform other related work as assigned. Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students; responding to student inquiries in a timely manner; assisting in program, division, and campus-related student activities; Actively participate in faculty and administrative committees; Actively participate in program, division, college, and community/public service; Develop and maintain professional self-improvement plans; Collect data and prepare reports; Prepare, create, and revise Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to meet CLOs; Conduct course assessment and other evaluations of instruction based on CLOs, Course Evaluation Surveys, and adjust pedagogy and curricula as appropriate to improve outcomes; Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in Human Anatomy and Physiology; or Master's in Zoology, or any Health or Biological Science with 9 credits graduate coursework in vertebrate anatomy and/or physiology. Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications:
Recent teaching experience as evidenced by one of the following: a) at least one year successfully teaching both lecture and laboratory components in biological science courses with an emphasis in anatomy and physiology at the community college and/or university level; b) at least two years in a biological science teaching assistantship at the college/university level; c) participation in a teaching fellowship in biological science for at least one year; d) demonstrated abilities in teaching biology courses, with an emphasis in anatomy and physiology. Experience using learning management systems in course instruction (e.g., Lamaku (Brightspace), Sakai, Blackboard, etc.) and in computer-based applications and modern technologies for teaching biological science, with an emphasis in anatomy and physiology lecture and laboratory courses. Experience or familiarity with Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) development and assessment for biological science courses. Experience in developing laboratory exercises that help students better understand the course topics. Experience or training that illustrates familiarity with science pedagogy for teaching biology to students with different learning styles. Experience with animal dissection. Demonstrated familiarity with allied health careers and their academic requirements. Teaching experience with diverse student populations. Commitment to teaching in a community college.
