BASIC FUNCTION
The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern supports the Engineering team through hands-on, project-based work focused on mechanical design, drafting, and product development. This role provides practical experience aligned with academic coursework while contributing to real-world engineering initiatives.
GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Engineering Management with assigned project-based work. Collaborate with department supervisors and leads to assist with engineering tasks and initiatives. Apply academic knowledge to practical engineering challenges and design activities. Assist in the development of CAD models, drawings, and basic design activities. Track and report project progress, including challenges, risks, and improvement opportunities. Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions. Prepare and present a final internship report summarizing contributions, learning outcomes, and recommendations to enhance company internship programs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and components. Familiarity with mechanical design practices and engineering fundamentals. Experience with CAD/3D modeling software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks). Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit for extended periods of time (7+ hours per day). Occasional lifting, bending, and movement within an office or light industrial environment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed. Maintain professional, respectful, and business-focused interactions with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple tasks and handle job-related stress effectively. Support and assist the department manager on tasks and initiatives as assigned.
