Position:

SUMMARY:
Hudson Public Schools is seeking qualified Portuguese- and/or Spanish-speaking interpreters/translators to provide as-needed oral interpretation and written translation services for school-based communications. This role supports equitable access for multilingual students and families and serves as a liaison between home and school.
Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation (English to Portuguese or Spanish, and Portuguese or Spanish to English) for: Parent-teacher conferences Special Education (IEP/504) meetings School meetings, events, and conferences Translate written documents (letters, notices, forms, reports, and district communications) Assist staff in communicating with multilingual families (in person, phone, or virtual) Ensure accuracy and cultural appropriateness of all translations/interpretations Maintain confidentiality of all student and family information Travel between schools as needed
Qualifications:
Advanced-Low level of proficiency in English and Portuguese/ Spanish according to ACTFL Proficiency scale Completed at least 60 hours of Interpretation Training High school diploma or equivalent required Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality Prior interpretation/translation experience preferred (school-based preferred) Knowledge of school systems and Special Education terminology preferred Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI)
Additional Information:
This is an on-call, at-will as-needed position with flexible scheduling up to 20 hours per week. Evening availability may be required for events or meetings
Rate of Pay:

The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
