Interpretive Naturalist

  • 4 years Position Overview Crossroads at Big Creek is seeking an Interpretive Naturalist with strong teaching, organizational, and interpersonal skills to oversee our environmental programming and education efforts.
In this role, you will lead collaborative initiatives, private field trips, public-facing programs, guided hikes, and other outreach efforts to encourage exploration and community engagement. Key Responsibilities Deliver high-quality educational experiences for formal school programs, public programs, special events, and community outreach. Create an annual work plan, develop program calendars, and continuously assess and improve programming. Collaborate with and cultivate relationships with area nonprofits, schools, and other community organizations. Work closely and collaboratively with other Crossroads staff, volunteers, and interns. Greet guests, provide facility tours, and enthusiastically field questions. Deliver presentations and provide assistance to community groups. Draft regular press releases and participate in radio/TV interviews to promote upcoming programs. Contribute written educational and promotional content for media and newsletters. Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization's mission. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in science education with an emphasis on environmental education, ecology, or a related field. Demonstrated enthusiasm for Crossroads' mission. Proven curriculum planning and teaching experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated leadership ability and a strategic mindset. Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to remain flexible in a dynamic environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage volunteers, donors, students, and the general public. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic AV equipment operation. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements A genuine love of the outdoors and a willingness to work outside in all types of weather. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., climb stairs, and maintain stamina for extended outdoor activities and guided hikes. Flexibility to work occasional weekend and evening hours as programming requires.
