Performs moderately complex investigative work. Work involves conducting investigations. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A.
Conducts investigations of inmate grievances regarding alleged violations of laws, rules, and regulations; collects evidence and data; and contacts and interviews inmates and potential witnesses. B. Prepares records, correspondence, and reports; evaluates and documents investigative findings; reviews and maintains evidence and documents for use in investigations; and assists in determining trends and resolving problems. C. Prepares cases for presentation; and presents testimony and evidence at hearings and court proceedings. D. Trains and supervises the work of others. Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A.
Education, Experience, and Training 1. Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. 2. Five years full-time, wage-earning criminal justice, clerical, administrative support, or technical program support experience. Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each year of experience. 3. Investigative experience preferred. 4. Experience in the supervision of employees preferred. B. Knowledge and Skills 1. Knowledge of investigative techniques, rules of evidence, and laws governing the activities regulated by the agency and court procedure. 2. Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes. 3. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred. 4. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. 5. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. 6. Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. 7. Skill in problem-solving techniques. 8. Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports. 9. Skill in conducting complex investigations by personal interviews and examination of records. 10. Skill to gather facts, evaluate findings, and prepare concise reports. 11. Skill to testify in hearings and court proceedings. 12. Skill to train and supervise the work of others.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION A.
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment. B. Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, tape recorder, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
