Core Responsibilities:
Fabricating and Erecting Steel:
This includes cutting, bending, and welding steel according to plans, and using various tools like shears, rod-bending machines, and torches.
Rigging and Lifting:
They use rigging techniques and lifting equipment like cranes to move and position heavy steel components.
Reinforcing Steel:
Ironworkers also handle reinforcing steel (rebar) for concrete structures, placing, bending, and connecting it according to specifications.
Installing Metal Decking:
They may install metal decking, which is corrugated steel sheets used in building construction to span floors and provide a surface for pouring concrete.
Safety:
Ironworkers prioritize safety by ensuring proper use of PPE, adhering to construction safety standards, and maintaining awareness of potential hazards.
Reading and Interpreting Blueprints:
Ironworkers must be able to understand and follow blueprints, sketches, and other instructions to determine the layout and dimensions of steel components.
Connecting Steel Members:
Ironworkers connect steel using bolts, wire, or welds, ensuring secure and durable connections.
Aligning Structures:
They use tag lines, plumb bobs, lasers, and levels to ensure structural alignment, both vertically and horizontally.
Maintenance and Repair:
They may also be involved in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of steel components and fasteners.
Unloading and Stacking Materials:
They unload prefabricated steel and iron and stack them for lifting and positioning.

MUST NOT BE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS AND MUST BE ABLE TO WELD AND WITHSTAND HEAT!
