Job Description

IT Network Specialist (Shared Position) Mediapolis Community School District Mediapolis, Iowa Mediapolis Community School District is seeking a skilled and reliable IT Network Specialist for a full-time shared position with another school district in the area. The position is a full-time role with the specialist working approximately 2-3 days per week at each school site. The IT specialist plays a critical role in maintaining a secure, reliable, and high-performing technology infrastructure that supports teaching, learning, and district operations. Position Summary The IT Network Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of the district's local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless networks, servers, and related infrastructure. The role provides technical expertise and support to ensure technology systems run smoothly for students, staff, and administrators. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot district network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, hardware, and servers. Manage and support Windows-based servers, Active Directory, and related systems. Ensure network security by managing firewalls, enforcing user access controls, implementing antivirus/malware protection, and complying with district and state technology policies. Provide advanced technical support for network-related issues; respond to and resolve help desk tickets promptly. Monitor network performance and implement improvements to optimize speed, reliability, and uptime. Assist with the deployment, imaging, and maintenance of district computers, Chromebooks, laptops, and other devices. Support and maintain cloud-based services (such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365) and integration with on-premise systems. Collaborate with the Technology Director and staff on technology planning, upgrades, and implementation of new systems. Document network configurations, procedures, and inventory. Provide training and guidance to district staff on network-related tools and best practices as needed. Perform preventive maintenance and assist with disaster recovery and backup procedures. Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend solutions that support the district's educational and operational goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Experience in network administration, systems support, or IT infrastructure management (school district experience preferred, not mandatory). Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs), and hardware (routers, switches, wireless systems). Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and firewall management. Familiarity with wireless network design and troubleshooting. Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Microsoft certifications). Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced educational environment. Must pass a criminal background check as required by Iowa law. Schedule & Compensation Full-time position shared between Mediapolis Community School District and a neighboring district. Approximately 2-3 days per week will be spent working on-site at each district.
Salary Range:
