Job Description
MSAD 54 is seeking an energetic, student-centered Elementary Physical Education Teacher to join our team at Mill Stream Elementary School. This position offers the opportunity to promote lifelong health and wellness while creating a positive, inclusive environment where all students can develop physical skills, confidence, and a love for active living. Our Approach to Physical Education Our elementary physical education program focuses on developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork, personal responsibility, and healthy habits. We believe students learn best in environments that are supportive, engaging, and responsive to individual needs, and where all students feel connected and successful. The successful candidate will design and deliver engaging instruction that promotes: Skill development in movement, coordination, and fitness Positive sportsmanship and teamwork Goal setting and personal growth Understanding of health, wellness, and lifelong physical activity Inclusive and Adaptive Programming A key component of this role is ensuring equitable access to physical education for all students. The Elementary Physical Education Teacher will: Plan and implement adaptive physical education (APE) programming for students with diverse learning and physical needs Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and classroom teachers to support individualized student goals Modify activities and environments to ensure all students can safely and meaningfully participate Support inclusive practices that promote confidence, independence, and success for every learner A Collaborative School Community MSAD 54 values a collaborative approach to student success. Physical education teachers work closely with: Classroom teachers & district Physical Education teachers Special education staff and educational technicians School counselors and support staff Administrators and district teams Teachers are supported through professional learning, collaboration, and shared planning opportunities to continuously strengthen practice. Our schools collaborate with organizations such as Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP), the Hight Family Early Learning Center, Summerset Public Health, and New Balance helping build a strong foundation for student wellness and development beginning in early childhood.
