Position Summary:
Journeyman Mechanics are responsible for maintenance and repair of major mechanical systems associated with operation of a large hydroelectric generating station. Work shift may be Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday. The Journeyman Mechanic will work under the general direction of the Wells Project Mechanical Foreman and Hydro Maintenance Supervisor. Work may be performed individually or with the assistance of other mechanics, foreman, electricians, operators, technicians, apprentices, etc. This position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is subject to a one-year probationary period.
Essential Functions:
Comply with federal, state and District safety rules and safe clearance procedures. Operate, rig and signal gantry and mobile cranes. Fabricate, machine and weld steel and aluminum metals. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems for hydroelectric equipment and auxiliary systems. Plumbing of steel, copper piping and stainless tubing. Support the District's mission and value statements in the performance of job duties. Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace. Ensure compliance with all District policies. Adhere to the District's Safety Policy and Procedures. Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District. Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees and contractors, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent, on-site attendance while working independently and with others. This position is designated as safety sensitive.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in fabrication, machining, and repair of metal components using standard shop equipment and tools. Skilled in use of lathes, mills, presses, and other machining equipment. Ability to weld using appropriate techniques and to produce sound work. Strong millwright skills including equipment installation. Ability to disassemble, inspect, repair and reassemble complex mechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Skill in the installation and repair of piping systems. Ability to perform pipe fitting, threading, and bending. Knowledge of safe rigging practices and the ability to operate, signal, and work in coordination with gantry and mobile cranes. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to identify mechanical issues. Ability to use personal computers and associated applications. Capability of working alone or with other crafts personnel in a safe and effective manner
Education and Experience:
Satisfactory completion of High School education or equivalent. Successfully completed a 3-year Hydro Mechanic Apprenticeship or five years of equivalent work experience in a large hydroelectric generating station. Work experience performing inspection, repair, maintenance and installation of hydropower plant equipment and apparatus in a hydroelectric generating station. Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in rigging, welding certifications, or crane operator certification.

Certifications:
Must possess or obtain and maintain: Must pass the IBEW Hydro Mechanic test within 6 months of employment. Current First Aid/CPR Card A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire). A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
Able to meet the physical standards of
WAC 296-24-23529.
Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to repeatedly lift heavy objects, sometimes weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to work in elevated areas, climb ladders and stairs and walk over uneven surfaces. Ability to physically perform heavy work on a variety of surfaces; floors, grating, ladders, etc. Ability to work in all temperature conditions and outside in all weather conditions. Capability of working over water at heights of up to 100 feet. Ability to pass a physical required for working in a Compressed Air Environment. Must be physically able to perform the various duties of a mechanic including working in hot, cold, wet, and noisy environments. Must have a full range of hearing and sight for personal safety.
